Boss Hoss 4 Years, 4 Months ago

Anyone here been around one of these bikes??? Got to admit I am no bike efficiano but I had never seen a "Boss Hoss" bike. A 350 cu V8, really? A single speed with a torque converter so no shifting? The local bike shop traded for this one at their Open House last weekend.
"This machine is bad to the bone... 350ci, single speed tranny, custom exhaust, and more torque and horsepower to make even the most hardcore speed freak smile. This bike will definitely turn heads wherever it goes. Only 15k miles."

Style wise beautiful and the power is to die for but putting a 350 into a bike is much like dating a distant cousin, just because you CAN doesn't mean you Should

Rode with a couple when I lived in Ga, he had the 500hp engine, she rode the trike with the 350hp engine. A motor with 2 wheels.

Boss Hoss: A really awkward answer to a question nobody asked to begin with.
It looks like a hippo on a skate board to me.

The Boss Hoss has been around for almost 30 years, first as kit then later as a fully completed bike. The first time I ever saw one I was tending bar in a local strip joint on a Saturday afternoon when the bar started emptying out. A few minutes later one of the regulars came back in and told me I had better take a moment. So I did and was pretty blown away. The bike has ungainly proportions and really has no flow but still it has a 350ci small block as the power plant and everybody knows what you can do with one of those. This particular one had been built the previous winter by a local 1%er and he really did a remarkable job. It was black and flamed and lots of chrome all over the engine and the tank had a serious group of gauges. He was running headers with no mufflers and when it fired up it was really ear burning. Now this was probably in the mid eighty's and he said that at that time he had between 20K and 25K in the bike not including his hundreds of hours of labor. An unheard of amount of money in those days. After that I saw the bike on a regular basis around the area. Over the years I have seen more and more of them especially at bike nights and other events. I know that there is also a 454ci version and the trike version but to this day I have never straddled one or really wanted to. I have talked to a lot of Boss Hoss riders and every one of them has said that the bike is a pleasure to ride. By the way they usually run Powerglide transmissions locked into high (2 speed auto) and they do have reverse. No way to back peddle that puppy. When I first saw the bike I was convinced that the kit would last a couple few years and then interest would fall off but I was wrong in a big way. Not only has the bike been successful they are still around today. Amazing.

A little PARANOIA never hurt anyone and has probably kept most of us alive.

I actually did a demo ride at the Boss Hoss Rally a couple of years ago in Tennessee. It's not that ungainly to ride and as you can guess the power is addicting. But two things that I can't get past... First is their look. Kinda reminds me of Beth Chapman, Dog the Bounty Hunters wife. That's the best way I can explain it. Second, is the heat from the radiator. After a 2-3 mile ride I felt like bread in an oven. Probably the perfect bike for winter riding.

Yeah, I've seen one of those on the road before. Always wondered about the amount of heat they put off
