I check the nut on the pulley at every oil change. After spending nearly $1000 getting the bike put back together when the nut backed off and destroyed the pulley, jackshaft and belt, I figured it was easier to check the nut during service, than to replace all the parts that were destroyed.

Ride safe. Ride often!

I like the photo of you on the freeway.
I also wear day glo vest. Seems to help.

I went to the Yamaha dealer and the 2003 model has a lockwasher that has one tab that fits
into the key way of the shaft, and then ears that bend over the nut.

My 2006 engine has the "conical" washer and nut.
I am buying the lock washer that has the tab that mates to the key way on the shaft.,with ears that bend over the nut. The 2003 style.

I think the idea with the conical washer is that as the engine expands and contracts that the conical washer will keep the pressure on the nut.

I wonder what style was being used in 2010?
I will go look that up.

Up to 2003 locking washer normal type.( One ear inside that fits into the woodruff key way and one tab folds over the nut.)
2004-2005 locking washer with two ears on the outside of the washer. Regular nut.
2006-2010 conilcal locking washer, staked nut.

I have a question regarding taking the nut off. When the nut is taken off to put red locite on will that change anything on the tension of the belt? Also what size socket will I need to take the nut off and put back on? Thanks

I would love to get the part numbers on all the washers to see the changes visually. Anybody got?

Two Yamaha techs in Los Angeles said to just use the most up to date locking washer,
which would be the conical washer.

They said they do not see many problems with them.
One of the techs was on the job for 10 years.

Look up higher on the page and click on "By category" then follow the prompts to get to your part.

36mm. I just picked one up last weekend to check the nut. It was a little loose.
