Been putting off lookin at mine even though I have read all the warnings here.Well I got a new lock washer and hunted down a 36mm socket.Off went the cover to my 05 with 20K.Tab on the lock washer was bent down but the nut was hand tight!!.I replaced the old washer and put on good ol red locktite.Glad I checked it and again this site helped save another lurkin problem.Thanks all.

Mine started throwing oil when it reached less than hand tight. Thankfully I caught it right then Thanks to the forum for the help and saving me.

Time to bump this, seen someone have the problem that made his bike stall when clutch was released, Must of got all tangled up in there. Too bad this isn't a sticky or in the tech section. I thought I did an ok Job of explaining the fix. Sure hate to have anyone have this problem at speed.

Just checked the front pulley nut on my 05 and it was finger tight. The retaining washer kept the nut from backing off Thank goodness. I have 45k on it now. Took it off cleaned up the nut and threads reinstalledwith red locktite and torqued to 61 ft lbs. Looks like I dodged a bullet.

Know what? I've replaced both of my front pulleys on my R*s with 31 tooth steel ones. As part of my Spring, git'r ready to ride maint., I'm gonna check both of my front pulley nuts too! No sense in foolin' around, if something could go wrong!
