I am not a religious person at all. I do believe if a faith or belief makes you a better person then great. The closest to a religious experience for me was watching my boys birth. Everytime!!

Re:The day I became a believer 1 Year ago
With all that has been said, I would like to Thank All those that prayed for me outside of the emergency room. I was 58 years old at the time of my accident, I hadn't been inside a church since I was 14. Even while I laid their in the ditch next to the road, not once did I even think about God. I think it was a few days after I got out of ICU, a nurses aid came in my room and looked at me and said that I must have just gone through a pretty nasty accident. I smiled at her and said yes I think so. She stopped, and looked me straight in the eye and said " You do believe, don't you ". I think that's when I found God. The first Sunday after I got out of the hospital, I went to church and have been their every Sunday since. I am being baptized on March 5.
I have always believed that things that have happened to me, happened for a reason. I have been through a lot of close calls in my life but never one so close as this one. I'm just so thankful for everyone's prayers.

Tell ya what Joe. I was there and I'm not a big believer in big life changing events converting people. But I know that it happens a lot. I just hope it sticks. That's the reason I'm not a big believer in life changing events. Because so many times it's just emotional. I know you just a little bit though. I'm happy to hear the news

To those that are questioning or believe that some sort of faith "makes you a better person" or something similar. Be a logical person for just a minute. Either there is truth or there is not. Either the lamp is on in the living room or it isn't. Doesn't matter what you believe. Only thing that matters is what is true. There is truth, and there is everything else.

It doesn't matter wether or not you believe if the lamp is on in the living room. It is either on or it's not. It is either casting light or it's not.

What I'm saying is that truth is what it is, wether you believe it or not. It really doesn't matter what you believe. Truth is what it is. Period. Logic says so.

I hope some of you guys figure it out in your own way. If anyone thinks pluralism is the way and we are just all "ok", I think you are all in for a rude awaking.

There is truth and there is everything else.

I go along with that. We say there are 2 religions, the one, true, right one... and, all the others.

If you even doubt there's a god, just do a little study into the whole field of genetics, and what DNA actually is, and what all it does. If, after you get a little bit of that understanding down, and you think any of that could have ever possibly come about by random, chance accident... you've got a whole lot stronger 'faith' than I have.

I can think of no better, matter-of-fact argument for the existence of a god than Deoxyribonucleic Acid.

Or, getting all that is, now that we know it is not eternal, and therefore had to have had an origin... but, from out of what? From nothing?!?!?

Or, that all that is, when organized as space, time, matter and energy, according to general relativity, cannot exist apart from each other, and, therefore, all had to have come into existence in the same instant............

Great points for making a case for the existence of a god.

Others?

And, after all I had explained above, and all that happened to me, and all my searching. I've come to the very same conclusion as Horse and tape. Jesus IS the Son of God, and the only Lord and Savior.

I'll add this... only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life will be received of God into His eternal Kingdom, says the end of the Book... and all those whose names were not found written in the Book of Life were cast into the lake of fire. For any who might be interested, that begins with Revelation 20:11.

The difference between those 2 is the Savior, and the necessity for one to go to Him and receive the New Birth. It was Jesus who said that you must be Born Again. It doesn't make you perfect, but it does mean you are forgiven... and, you have the means to live a new and different life by means of that help He gives.

It's not a book of rules, of do's and don'ts. They're in there, but it is primarily about restoring a long broken relationship, that you might come to know your Heavenly Father.

This changes everything!

Re:The day I became a believer 1 Year ago
Maybe I should have posted this in a general discussion forum but it was Lug Nut's accident that got me thinking so I figured it would be okay. Religion, separate and apart from God, is a funny thing...broken into groups and sub-groups there are thousands of religions...what troubles me is a fair majority of adherents to each will tell you their's is the only right one...the rest of us are going to Hell. For the most part it's just big business/big money to me.

I guess I'd rather believe (I mean who is hurt if I do) and be wrong in the end than not believe and be wrong in the end. So my remaining skepticism is based on a selfish need for spiritual insurance. I think the reason the "Is There a God" question will be debated perhaps until the end of days is that human beings lack the intellectual capacity to understand two gateway concepts before they can ever get to the understanding of "Is There a God". One is infinity and the other nothing. Intellectually I sort of get infinity...there is no ceiling, there is no wall...we are not protozoa living in a puddle where the whole world is in a wet 10 inch circle...there is simply no end...I accept it but I cannot grasp the nuances. The more difficult gateway question is what is nothingness...it is said God created the world from nothing...and that is a concept I have thought long and hard over (yes, true) for many years. Think of nothing, what do you see...white? gray? black? Those are all something...colors, if nothing else. I have never truly imagined nothing...doubt I ever will.

Years ago, I walked into the house and overheard my ex-wife's youngest son and his friends mocking Sarah Palin for her statement that humans and dinosaurs co-existed and that the Earth was only 6000 years old as told in the Bible. Again, I am not smart enough to understand such things but I did ask him one question..."if there is a God, why do you think he would be bound by your quaint notions of time...who is to say that a God year is not 1,000,000 of human years, or even a billion?" I went on to explain my infinity and nothingness conundrum to those young men and then left them be. I felt vindicated when I heard those same young men debating these ideas several times after that day.

Too serious...too silly...not appropriate for this forum...I apologize.

Ted

The worst religions are the ones that say they are the only right religion for you....( all of them ) Do the best you can in life without irritating others.

"If God did not exist it would be necessary to create Him". Sign on a whorehouse wall in the movie, "Easyrider".
