Shifting into 2nd problem returned 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
After lubing the shift shaft pivot it seemed to go away, but the problem of not shifting into 2nd gear with the clutch returned today.

Once the bike is good and hot, it will go into a form of neutral when shifting from 1st to 2nd, almost every time. Very annoying.

I have to pull up without using the clutch - clank! - and then it goes on. All other shifts are fine. The hotter it gets, the worse it does this. I'm concerned that something is going to break internally.

Everything is lubed. No work was done on the trans or clutch or shift linkage over the winter. It's never done this in the previous 41,000 miles.

Help!

When mine did that, I had to hold up the shift lever with my foot until the gear was engaged with power. That means I had to hold the lever for an additional second after making the shift. Turns out there was a pin, or something, that had fallen out of place in the gears upon the re-install after the factory recall. I don't know what the pin, or clip, was.

Has anyone here had to replace the oil seal and bearing in the clutch cover?

I'm wondering if that's my problem...

The hotter it gets, the worse it does this.

During this time, does it clank harder going into first from neutral when stopped and is it harder to find neutral from first, or second, when sitting?

If so, I would first check for too much cable free play, i.e., the clutch could be dragging.

Nope. The first to neutral shift and neutral to first shift are smooth. All other gear changes are smooth. It's just like it doesn't shift quite far enough going from first through neutral to second. Like the shift shaft doesn't want to rotate that far.

My next step is replacing the seal and bearing on that shaft. Just surprised this hasn't happened to anyone else.
