Re:Fuel Injection Facts and Tips 1 Year, 2 Months ago
I just got my 08 a few months back it had stock pipes and breather, ran like champ. I added cobra long pipes with baffles, thunder teardrop vertical air kit type A. And got a power commander III.
Boy I have had nothing but trouble, basically the same problem that White08roadie was saying he was having with his. A miss/stumble at cruise holding the throttle steady, black smoke and pour mileage. I mapped and reset the power commander 3 times. running a little better but got that miss/stumble. I'm thinking about taking the power commander off and just going back to the ECU. The only other thing is the bad back firing when I let off the throttle, had a friend put marbles in the vacuum hose line or 02 sensors lines and the back firing stopped but concerned about restricting the fuel pressure regulator. You guys have advice

The FI crowd will chime in pretty soon, but I think they'll say make sure the wires are connected to the O2 sensors that thread into the pipes, and get rid of the Power Commander thingie. The stock igniter works just dandy by itself.
The marble is probably blocking the line coming from the AIS on the front of the bike. There is a short hose on it, that Barron's includes a plug for. That may be what he used the marble for.

You should have read and adhered to this thread before wasting money. Power Commanders and other after market ECUs have been nothing but problems with these EFI bikes. The stock ECU will work just fine. Remove the PC and the AIS and make sure you have your O2 sensors in and hooked up.

There's no vacuum line to AIS on the FI bikes. Just a two wire harness. Follow the wires from the AIS up the down tube and unplug it.

Then order a Baron's block off kit and remove the whole thing.

Dump the PC-III. Waste of good riding time messing with that stupid thing.

Reposting here. didn't realize this thread was the main FI section fro the forums.

I've been chasing this problem for a while now and i just wanna ride my bike already.

Over the course of the last year, my bike began losing power and coughing through the intake. No check engine lights at all.
At this point, the bike is basically unrideable. I've done all the basic maintaince and even had it checked out by the dealer i purchased it from.

2012 R* 11k miles on the clock. No mods at all outside of air filter.

So far, this is what I've done.
1. New K&N air filer (Stock airbox)
2. New NGK plugs, all gapped to spec (.035)
3. New Mobile 1 oil and filter, filed to 4 qts
4. New fuel pump.
5. New fuel and Seafoam treatment, following recommended amount per bottle.

The fuel pump was changed after having the dealer run testing on it. The tech said that the bike wasn't holding fuel pressure through out the RPM range. At the time of testing, the fuel pressure regulator was showing as good. I haven't had the FPR checked since replacing the pump.

Any ideas on what else I can look in to?

It does have issues starting. I usually have to crank it a few seconds, release the button, the hold it again in order for it to start. It idles just fine.

Check the hose as suggested in the thread. How old is your battery? Did you drain the engine oil and the tank oil? About 2 quarts each. Mine used to sputter some with a K&N so I put the stock filter back on. Are your O2 sensors connected and working properly?

I haven't checked that hose yet as I'm unclear about what hose. Is is the one going to the pressure regulator or the atmosphere pressure sensor? Not sure the age of the battery as it came with the bike when I got it a year or so ago. I had it load tested a few months back and it tested good. I did drain both the oil tank and the engine and filled with an even 4 qts. As for the o2s, they are connected and have never been touched by me so I haven't tested them at all.

Be sure and check all the o2 sensor connectors and pins, do the pull test on the wires, I had one broken at the connector, no check engine light and bike acted like it was starving for fuel at cruising speed. damn thing wore me out before I found it. It was in adapter harness for roadhouse exhaust.
