My apologies bud, I erroneously used the term "tranny" oil when I meant the transfer gear oil.

Hmmm, the oil was on the top and down the sides of the transfer case, so I'm surmising it's come from higher up, but the dipstick was in correctly etc. Step one I suppose, run from cold and see if/where it is seeping out from there, then I'll have some better information to post with. Thank you for the tips though, as it gives me a hit list of things to double check!

Yeah, I should have caught that. My wife talks like that sometimes. She is from south of Christchurch a ways.

Re:sudden oil leak 2 Years, 8 Months ago
I had this happen to me and the first time the transfer case had been over filled,be sure the bike is on a lift or not on the side stand and not leaning and give it some time to get all the gear oil down to the holding area and drip out of the sight hole. My leak, for some unknown reason, was from the middle top screw of the transfer case.
After several different things I put teflon tape around the end of the screw and that stopped the leak. I still think that screw should have had a washer or o ring on it but I am unable to see one in the parts view online.

you will find it,
happy hunting

".... drip out of the sight hole."

You are referring to the small plug under the large fill plug, right?

If you're filling to the big hole it has too much in it.

Yes sir,the sight hole not the fill hole. It is at the correct level when it stops dripping out of the sight/inspection hole when level.

Many thanks mate, I'm sure I will. It's more perplexing as it's not been filled in the last few weeks, so I'm wondering why now. I'll do the fire up and idle test to see if I can recreate it, as I'm not too keen to ride it around leaking oil in a rear wheel wise direction

Re:sudden oil leak 2 Years, 8 Months ago
Mine would only leak if I had been riding and then just some oil on the side and a few drops when I would park it at home.
Never leaked enough to give me concern about oil on the rear tire. I would wipe the cover and underside down and try to figure out where it was leaking from, until then I rode when I felt like it.
