Many times I wish I would've bought a used 06-07 instead of a new FI bike. This FI system is probably the worst FI system I have ever dealt with.

Deerkiller, this is just a suggestion.

If you're that unhappy with it, You could always trade with someone that has a bike that meets your requirement. I am sure we have someone within our membership that would gladly trade with you. Kai

Not quite there yet. I kinda like the fact that I bought this with 0 miles and have done everything the way I wanted it done. I'm sure that makes sense. I can't complain about the reliability of the FI system either. Just the fact that it is untuneable. I just need to accept the fact that the power that it has will have to be enough. It sounds cool, looks cool, and seems to be very reliable for long trips, which I do a few of every year. So, reliability is more important than a few extra ft/lbs and horses. It just rubs me wrong that I can't improve it, ya know?

DeerKiller, for me, I just count my blessings that I have a reliable bike, and that I have a place like the RSC that can help me when its not. Kai

I don't know if the PC could overcome the 45mm throttle body with the stock injectors. With the speedstar injectors the stock computer could probably handle it okay. Or it could be that the combination would also require the speedstar computer, I don't know. Someone from Yamaha would know for sure.

The FI system on the Road Star is one of the best out there unless of course one is trying to make it do something it wasn't designed for. The one I have ridden was very smooth and I would imagine it would cruise all day at whatever speed I chose. The Road Star is the first bike I've ever owned that I didn't want to change.

I guess the only thing I can add to the stew is one of these..

http://www.techlusion.com/viewproduct.asp?vehicleid=631

I have the GEN 2 version, but now I see there's an updated, GEN 3 version.

I paid $25 for mine new off eBay which was the only reason I went for it and fooled with it some, but without proper measurement reading tools I was all over the map and just unplugged the ground wire. It's still there if I want to dive back into messing with it. I did get rid of the 'off idle' stumble, but the Red pot was the one giving me fits. Too rich and either I had that circuit kicking in too soon or too late.

Like I said, I just didn't have the means, or patience, to jack with it.

You mention the off idle stumble. Another reason I think this FI system is a POS. I rode my dads carbed 1700 right after riding my FI bike and was struck by how smooth his bike was off idle. The FI bike is all herky jerky at very low RPM's. Have to use the clutch a lot more. The carbed bikes are so much smoother. Both my old 1600 and his 1700. Car manufactures have this crap all sorted out. What the hell is wrong with the engine calibrator engineers at Yamaha?

Yamaha isn't really known for good FI mapping as far as I can tell. Ever rode an 09+ R1 with factory computer I can't believe any of those ever even sold that thing was so screwed up from the factory. First thing anyone ever does is get the factory computer reflashed. However, those bikes are plenty fixable and can be tuned quite easily.

Never thought to ask but is the FI R* fly by wire or cable?? I rode 1 of the new Indians and they are fly by wire and it had a flat spot right off idle that was irritating.

Cable, Dave.

I'm sure that stumble is the transition from 'open loop' idle to closed loop which has to be a leaner setting.

Disconnecting the O2 sensors and fattening up the cruise setting really helped when I had that Techlusion in series, but gave up on the power settings that gave me fits.

So, when I installed my exhaust and BAK, I also put on a Cobra Power Pro - had I read all the oppinions on the Power Pro here first I likley would have gone with just the exhaust and BAK. But, now that it's all installed and I have about 2k miles on it with the Power Pro, I love the way it runs - pulls strong from 0 to 115 ( maybe more, that's as high as I've gone), no flat spots, no issues... I have no desire to take it off, but just wanted to confirm if all the people here who don't like it just don't like it because you don't think it makes a difference? I can't really say it made a difference because I put them all on at the same time, but it runs GREAT with it on... has anybody heard of one of these causing engine damage? That would be the only reason I would consider removing it

I'm going to check that hose you guys been talking about when I get home. The under tank one. I think mine idles a bit fast when it's warmed up good. No idle adjustment on the FI ? I got a 2008 Silverado
