all this talk about pipes and drilling out mufflers, AIS removal. and then jetting and aftermarket air cleaners and exhaust systems, but does anyone know the right jetting for a completely stock system? I have a 2007 r* that I removed the AIS and went one size bigger on the main fuel jet and one size bigger on the pilot fuel jet and drilled out the air mixture and turned out the screw 3 and a half from fully seated.stock pipes, mufflers and stock air cleaner. very close to perfect but once in awhile it will cough when I blip the throttle between downshifts.any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. it's so close now but really would like it to be PERFECT all the time.(p.s.) a slight pull on the choke makes it perfect telling me it is still a little lean.

Removing the AIS has no affect on the air fuel mixture or the performance.

i agree, didn't run any better but it did have the most effect on getting rid of the cough when blipping the throttle between downshifts.

"just say no to blipping." Not good!

I'll totally disagree... I blip all the time, and it almost never misses to rev and match road speed to the next cog down. If it coughs or backfires, it would hardly be 1 in a hundred on either of mine, so the carb tuning can be done right in a way that they will blip just fine!

I didn't do anything special, but to install the jets and turn whatever to what the instructions said, and it came out just fine on both of mine... and, it's been some years now, too.

Power's there and the fuel mileage is good, too. No issues that I would want to try to change a thing.

Blip away, if you can get the settings right!

i didn't buy a kit that would tell me what jet sizes to use and nobody has been able to tell me, i just took a crack at it myself. lots of info out there for aftermarket exhaust and air cleaners, i just can't find anyone with the info on a stock system...even the dealers. what next? by the way i believe you...it can be done right.

When I did my stage 3 I threw on a Kuryakyn Hypercharger more for looks than anything but it gave me the airflow I needed to offset the unrestricted pipes, functional and the butterfly's look cool. . I talked to a tech at J&P Cycles (Mail Order House)over the phone and he got me started with a jet kit that was part #909820. Somewhere around 220m is where I ended up with completely gutted pipes.

Why do you say nobody can tell you what to use??? Just ask If you use a barons needle, stock exhaust and stock intake the instructions for a 07 calls for a 170 main jet,35 pilot jet(but I would use a 37.5 pilot jet to fix your blipping issue) and 4th groove on the needle with the white spacer and 1 shim below the clip. If you don't want to use a jet kit with the adjustable needle just change the pilot to a 37.5 to fix the blip cough. Although trying to fix the blip issue without buying a kit will not give the full potential of performance and and mpg.

He has a 1700. 172.5 Mikuni main, and a 37.5 or 40 pilot, and the needle set up like dave said.

Every bike on here, that has open intake and exhaust, can be set up just like that for 1700's, and be fine. The 1600's. are 167.5 or 170 main, and 37.5 pilot. Needle as mentioned
