Oil tank plug leak? 1 Year, 9 Months ago

Had used the same crush washer too many times and it started leaking. Put on a new genuine Yamaha crush washer and it still has a drip or two at the end of a ride. Any remedies?

Look closely at the flange of the drain plug where the washer seals for any nicks, or deformities.
Same for the oil tank drain hole. The slightest scratch, or indentation, will allow it to weep oil.

Wrap the threads with teflon tape, that's what I did to stop my drip!

Some use a copper washer like the ones on you brake line banjo bolts. If there are any deformities on the surfaces as mentioned above the copper washers should seal it.

I don't mean to be a robber of post but, this is also an oil leak. I'm getting a weep leak from around my clutch cable input shaft , where the shaft enters the clutch cover. Anyone had this happen ?

A few have had a leak there . That is a very simple fix by replacing the seal under the lever. Pull the lever off and the seal comes out right from there. A little screwdriver will pry it right out and the new seal installed for less than $5. You can look it up on the parts fiche in the clutch section and see the pic of where it is.

I thought about that. Seems a crush washer would work better than a copper one. I may even try the original bolt vs the smaller 14mm.

What is the difference between a crush washer and a copper one? I thought some were calling them crush and some copper but were referring to the same thing.
Upon advise here, I've been using the copper ones from Auto Zone along with the 14mm plugs for several years without incident, until recently. I now have the same problem you just described, Steve. Even after changing to another new copper, to no avail.

So which one are you going to use to remedy the problem? Because of this thread, I'm going to inspect the flange on my plug. Not sure how the flange could get buggered up but I'm sure they must be pretty cheaply made and not made to last. Maybe I'll just buy another plug. I also like the idea of teflon tape. What do you think, Steve?
