Getting a Bionic Knee ... 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|
|
I haven't posted for a few months. Been since April. Working and the riding this summer was pretty good.
I was doing yard work last Monday 10/2/17. I felt it go. I have had 9 knee surgeries since 1979. Two ACL ligament replacements to the right knee. The last one lasted 25 years. Both knees are pretty much gone. Bone on Bone with severe wear but the right knee is now gone. The Doc said nothing left to do to it.
I go in for a Total Knee Replacement on 10/26/17. Recovery time is about 8-10 weeks. So the bike will be put away for the season. Good thing I just did an oil change before my last ride.

I know a few people who have had it done and they all wished they would have done it sooner. It work out well for all of them. I hope yours goes as good for you as it did for them. Good luck.

Good luck with your TKR. I had ACL reconstructure in February myself. They used my hamstrings to rebuild it. Did 5 months of physical therapy to boot. Hopefully you'll recoup quickly. My pt guy said the knee replacements heal faster than the acl reconstruction so you should be golden, what with all the practice you have already had! Good luck and stay healthy.

My mother had THREE TKRs... she wore out the first one! After her sister's criminal defense attorney husband died, she took my mom on several tours-Middle East (Italy, Egypt) and far East ( Thailand, Hong Kong, etc.) She's gone, now, but I'm going to have a shoulder joint replacement on my left shoulder, in January. Torn rotator cuff (two of the three tendons torn completely, and shoulder joint dislocated [ball sitting on top of the socket]). Dr. says 20-30 minute operation, (small cut on the top of the shoulder, go between the muscles, replace the ball and socket. Says this procedure will make reattaching the torn muscles and tendons easier than if they attempted to do it the old way). Recovery is supposed to be 6-8 weeks before I can get back on my bike . The hell of it is, is that this all started back in June, when I stalled my bike at the bottom of my friend's hillside circular driveway, and toppled to the downhill side, and tried to arrest my fall! Judging by the crackling I've been feeling/hearing from my RIGHT shoulder, I wonder if it will require replacement. AFA your surgery, good luck! My mother astounded the medical staff with the speed of her rehab-see if you can do the same!

I worked with a guy that had it done while we worked together. I could tell by the look on his face he felt so much better.
I might be in the market for a bionic back on a few years but i hope not

I've had both my hips replaced and I'm sure you know since you have had other knee surgeries to really put out the effort to do P.T. As you know rehab is really hard but worth the effort in the long run.Good luck, Ken
