From what I have heard about them you will need a shedload of luck. They seem to have a problem with sealing and STAYING sealed

Yep, I've heard the same as Tug. The Ben Herr and Nemesis manifolds seem to an absolute pain to get sealed properly and usually cause a ton of headaches. You're probably better off just tossing it on ebay and getting one of Curt's ported stock manifolds.

When Davej had problems sealing his stock manifold, on his 1700, he opted for the make your own gaskets, with gasket material. If they're a pain to seal properly, that'd be the route I'd take.

Actually the Nemesis, IF you can find one, is a good manifold and works well. But they are no longer available. Every so often member or two will look into having them made, but the initial cost must be prohibitive

From what I understand the problem with the Ben Herr is where the carb fits into the manifold. My problem was the manifold to head joint. JMO but I would get rid of the Benn Herr and just get a good ported manifold. MS1700 had all kinds of issues when he used a Benn Herr. He finally bought a Curts ported manifold and was happy as hell.

Are you sure it is a Ben Herr and not a Nemesis? I wouldn't put a Ben Herr on my lawn mower they are junk and look like they were cast in a coffee can full of beach sand. They won't give you any improvement over a stock because the are crude and very poorly done at least the Nemesis was a professionally done manifold that worked very well. I had a Ben Herr and threw it in the trash I wouldn't even give to anyone it was so crappy.

Tug you are correct I was working on a design but funds were to thin to do it. Another member (Clinton) has taken my parts and research and gone to a place here in Texas to have some made. He called the other day and will have a small number made to start with. From what he has said he may have a very marketable one very soon and at a fairly reasonable cost. Yes that may take away from my ported business but many want a metal manifold for me I am staying with the stock ported think there is a demand for both. Curious to see the difference but not taking my bike apart to test any more. It cost me $1400+ because I used it as a test bed before and can't afford that again.

Are you sure it is a Ben Herr and not a Nemesis? Positive. I have had it for almost two years. Couldn't decide if I wanted to install it or not. This post is giving me the info I am looking for. "You're probably better off just tossing it on ebay and getting one of Curt's ported stock manifolds." This is actually how I was leaning. I appreciate the advice.
