I have the Shark Evo series 3 also. I really like the convenience of switching back and forth. I really only use full face on the highways (or above 60 )

Even though they say you can't switch back and forth while riding, I do it all the time with no issues. I also like the fact that the helmet is so light. The built in sun screen is nice also. The vents are not the greatest, but they are not terrible either. The wind noise is very low in full face, but there is a definite sound in 3/4 at speed. They are not joking about the fit either. It is one of the most comfortable, yet snug helmets I have ever owned.

The helmets are not cheep, and if you want the more exotic finishes (Skull for example) it can add another $100 depending on availability.

I liked their color / pattern options ( I went with the orange and black Arona.) The cushioning is easy to remove and clean (or just dry out if you sweat it to death.) My only real complaint is that you have to buy their Bluetooth as the cutouts are oddly shaped and specific.

Hope this helps.

I just got a zox modular. It's the Brigade model in flat black. I have less than a hundred miles on it so have not decided if it's for me or not. I always have had an open face helmet. One thing I noticed is the wind noise is less so am able to hear other noises. I got mainly for cold weather and rain. I like that it can be open for a quick fuel stop with out removing completey. Hope you like your's.

Well, went down to my local dealer this evening and they don't stock the Shark. They did have the HJC modular helmet in plenty of stock. I've always had HJC helmets since I started riding about 18 years ago (how in the crap did that happen ). The HJC IS-MAX II. Probably not quite as deluxe as the Shark but it fit well and the price was right. Less than half what the Shark costs. So I bought one. Less than $200 feels a lot better than $400ish for the Shark. And I know my head fits HJC helmets very well. Plus I can transfer the pinlock antifog from my track helmet right to this one (works very well actually).

I'll test it out pretty soon. Hoping it was a good investment at $180ish

If you only want modular for when you are stopped, that's great. If you are looking for something that can be USED in both 3/4 and full face (and is also DOT certified in both conditions) the Shark is the only one available. Glad you are happy with your purchase.

If these are legit HJC IS-MAX II's, they're quite deal at $77-$95. Maybe made if Taiwan?

Wow. That might fall in the too good to be true category. Might be legit though.

I knew the HJC wasn't as top notch as the Shark. Mostly just wanted the modular so I could talk to the person next to me at a red light/stop sign and so I could sneak a drink of water here and there. And if I have to sneeze Did that once while wearing a full face helmet years ago. Less than desirable situation to be in

Here is part of my take on it....full face is best for protection no doubt BUT it also insulates you from much of the joy of riding. A 1/2 hlemet makes you look like a mushroom (especially if its DOT) and the novelties make your head a novelty.
So I'm probably splitting hairs but 3/4 gives you a fair amount of protection while still giving you at least some of the enjoyment of the open air.
Oh and people can see my handsome self!

Deerkiller was in favor of the chin bar a year ago...

http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,187/func,view/catid,14/id,977085/#977034

Once my wife started working with medical records, she started wearing a helmet.
I'm working on it. Started with some of my modular snowmobile helmets, tried a mushroom head to "get in the habit" anyways, and this year I had a killer deal on an open face Arai that I've always worn.

But I should probably get back to the modular. As I posted last year, the chin bar and visor area makes up almost half of the impact area for helmet-hitting statistics.

The modular aren't really a one piece, full strength deal for the chin, but works out as a nice compromise.

I have the cheaper ones, GMAX and HCLs. The biggest difference I've found in the modulars is that they are heavier (especially as they get cheaper).
As for those prices, the big sled shows like in Novi have multiple vendors blowing out pallets of helmets for up to half price. (I'm sure the bike shows do the same, and the helmets are the same except the sleds have double pane visors for fogging, which is not DOT acceptable)

Doesn't say anything about DOT approved in the ad.
