I run mine at 46# for the sake of high speed stability. For your purposes you could run them at 42# or maybe even 40# to give you more even tread wear.

I have used Pirelli on the front. Really liked Metzler 880s also until reviews by our members scared me away from them. Right now I'm using a Mich Comm 2 on the front.

I just have the standard fender and 3 1/2" rim on both my R*s along with Roadwing shocks.

I've been running an Austone taxi tire, 175Rx78x16 on two RoadStars for several years and have yet to find anything wrong with them. They corner until I drag floorboards, stop real fast, last about 25,000 miles, wear evenly (when run at 32#), and put my speedometer exactly on correct reading (based on my gps). I never get less than low 50's for mileage, usually better than that at higher elevations. Here's a link to the main place most folks get theirs from:

As we used to say when I was riding my Intruder, "come over to the dark side, we have cookies!" A lot of riders on the Intruder Alert site run in the darkside as car tires seem to last much longer than bike tires. Then again, it is a LOT lighter bike.

I don't use tubes as I sealed my rims with 3M 4200 which isn't quite as firm as 5200 but allows spokes to be tightened. Three have never leaked (more than maybe a pound per month), but one front C II I had to re-install a standard, right angle bike tube as I just couldn't get the leak stopped.

By the way, I run C II rear tires in the front of the two bikes and am getting up to twice the mileage that I was with a stock front size. I run 40# in the front.

In less than three years I've run about 45,000 miles on two R*s with the pressure there. At 38# I was getting center wear. I check it with a depth gauge every so often. Just eyeballing your wear is very imprecise. Even wear now all across. Never squirrely and I have to hold back from cornering too hard so I don't scrape floorboards all the time. I also found I have to back off on braking as it's too easy to overbrake on the rear--perhaps due to the extra traction from all the sipes and extra rubber on the ground. Plus, of course, it is a radial tire that is softer than a mc tire.

With the Roadwing slight lift, I can lean and corner a little more without dragging pipes, but I usually run out of nerve to push it as hard as possible on every turn--plus that takes much more concentration and I like to ride more for fun. I'm not a racer. Nor do I go real fast. I have gone to 85, but that's not more than once per year, so I don't know how it will perform at over a hundred like some of these riders claim. Why would I want to go that fast? I mean I'm 76 now, I want to make it to at least 80 before I even consider quitting. LOL!
