Do any of you use that stuff you put on the rear of new pads to keep them from making noise?

I have always used the spray on any/every brake job regardless of vehicle type car/ bike/truck. I don't really like the tube of goop that they sell for that purpose but would use in a pinch.

That is causing the noise?
Wear?
Dirt?
Crystallization from overheating disk?

Like Bofo mentions, sometimes the pad surface can become crystallized. When this happens, try slamming on the brakes a few times at around 20 MPH or so. Obviously, BE CAREFUL not to lock up the brakes and wreck... That would be bad.

Also, not sure about the later bikes, but on the early ones, there's supposed to be a spring plate that clips on behind the pad on the piston side. [No. 14,24 below] They often get misplaced or inadvertently thrown out. Double check you have yours and that it's on the correct side.

I've used anti-squeal past on some cars, but I've never needed it on my R*.

Doc mine is an 07 I bought new and it never had the plate you're talking about. Thanks Dave, and of course I bought the tube type. Can't help it I'am a Cajun and we always have to do it at least twice before it's right LOL. I really need to take the pistons out and clean all that nasty crud up then put new brake fluid in it and man do I hate bleeding them things, almost as bad as bleeding diesel injectors.

I've used the "stuff in a tube" for, well as long as I have been wrench'n. Not that it is better or worse than the spray. I haven't had any issues.

I don't mind the way it works, to me its a little messy. I just prefer the spray because I can spray the pads and let the spray set up while I'm doing the dis-assembly with no mess and it is nice and evenly applied.

This is interesting... There appears to be something that resembles the spring plate, on the back of the pad of a 2007, but it's not listed separately.

The EBC pads I use on my '06 come with the shims already on the back of them. I guess they changed when the calipers did.

I use the EBC also and they come with a copper looking full of holes plate on the side that contacts the pistons. I'am just chasing a ghost as ever since I put new pads on the rear my wife tells me they are squealing. I left my hearing in SE Asia so I always tell her when it brakes then I'll know what you are hearing and fix it.
