carb questions 4 Years, 6 Months ago
|
|
I have a 05 * 1700. It has a kuryakyn twin velocity Plus air cleaner on it and the ais has been removed. On my carb there are 3 things I don't know what they do. On the side of the carb near the top there is a 3/8 sized piece of tubing about 4 inches long that bends down and ends w/ no cap or filter. At the bottom of the carb on the bowl there is a small nipple that looks like it should have a piece of tubing on it but doesn't. Also if your looking strait down at the carb on the right side there looks to be a place where a screw used to be or should be but is not. If anyone has any ideas it would be great. Thanks.

The tube on the top left, on the very front corner, is the bowl vent. It use to connect to the back of the air box. The tube with the small black plastic thing on the end, that is on the upper left rear and points up and back, is the upper chamber vent, it stays just like that.
The little nipple on the bowl, is the bowl drain, it is used to 'drain the bowl', and is also how Yamaha checks the float level in the bowl.
Can't help on the missing screw, without a pic. There are several tapped(threaded) holes on the carb, that get nothing.

Awesome! That answers my questions. I do have a a.i.s question. There is a metal tube that goes into the front cylinder. I have it capped off. Is there a plate I can cover the hole up with and get rid of that ugly tube?

Yes. There is an actual AIS removal kit that can be purchased that has the plates(two of them), and the little nipple for the vacuum port on top of the intake manifold behind the carb.
You can remove everything associated with the AIS. It'll look a bit like this, although you still have the fuel pump. There is another fitting on the rear head that gets a plate, that is right behind the fuel pump. Everything on the front of the motor can be removed, just leaving the rectifier and starter.

You can search for them on ebay, and Barons sells a kit. If you google Barons AIS removal kit for your year of bike, you'll find it. They have two styles, the plugs for the 99-03's, and the plates for the 04 and afters when Yamaha bumped to the 1700cc motor. Yours are plates
