Jetting question 4 Years, 6 Months ago
Hey guys I'm new to the forum....site is great!

Question I will have the following mods on this weekend
Barons big air kit
Cobra pipes with baffles
AIS removed
Hand ported intake

What do you recommend for a starting point on the jets? I'm in Connecticut so pretty close to sea level. Oh and the bike is a 2006 silver ado 1700.

Going to buy some jets today so any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Don't know if the Baron's came with their jet kit or not, but you will want the adjustable needle for sure, and a 172.5 and 175 main. I'd get a 37.5 pilot jet too. Keeps you from having to use so much PMS screw to make the bottom end happy. Others will chime in with their suggestions too.

The stock needle is a single groove, and is only adjustable by adding shims under the bottom. If you haven't bought a jetting kit, you might pick up a Barons kit, and it'll have the Mikuni jets, and the multi groove needle.

Going to have to see if my cycle shop has the kit, I am ridding in a large cruise Sunday. Is it worth tampering with the carb without the adjustable needle?

I wouldn't make ANY changes until after your ride. Things have a way of happening that will end up embarrassing you. Rule #1 never make major changes before a long ride. Rule #2 never make more than one change at a time. Rule # 3 remember rules # 1 & 2.

If you bought the barons air kit new, it should have the jet kit in it. And don't do anything until after your ride, unless you have plans to not go. I've seen people miss vacations because they changed pipes 2 days before leaving and something went wrong. And with all that you are going to do, you have quite a bit of hrs involved and if you try to rush things along, something is gonna happen.

Re:Jetting question 4 Years, 6 Months ago
Actually I should have been a bit more specific but I typed the original message at a job site on my IPhone....The Barons intake and cobra pipes were already on the bike when I bought it. I was going to port the intake and make any jet changes needed from that and removing the AIS. As far as jet kit, no clue what is in there or what the previous owner did to the carb if anything. I suppose the easiest thing to check would be the main? Is it accessible through the bowl without removing the carb? This way at least I will know whats in there.

Was looking for some ideas on jetting when the intake is ported and the AIS removed along with mods already on the bike.

Can I get to the needle without removing the carb see if it has been changed? Havent taken the air cleaner off yet to see whats involved. I'm working for the next couple hours.....
