What Kyle said. No need for a lift. You are making it harder than it is. Just drive it up on two by somethings, put another two by under the kick stand and your good. At most you may get a little oil on the front left frame.

There is also a nice tech article showing how to fill without having to quick start / shutdown the engine.

My bike is at the stock height, and while I admit to also cussing the designer during the process, it really is not that bad.

I just had to get a shallower pan to fit under on the kickstand.

I could do that but I like having plenty of room to work.
I left out that when I do an oil change is when I go through the whole bike and checked each and every bolt, screw and nut for tightness. Pays huge dividends.

I also cut the end off a long trans funnel that I jam down into the oil fill hole. I put 2qts in, start the engine and put in the other 2 qts while it is running. With the long funnel in the fill hole there is no spraying oil out of the funnel hole while installing the last 2 qts and I'm not running the engine with just 2 qts in it.

You've been hoarding this tid bit of information for years!!

Thanks Dave.

Doc, put the funnel in the fill hole, mark it at the hole then cut it an inch or so longer. It works well.

unless it has the oil filter relocation kit on it, the way I understand it (a friend had one) you have to pull the front exhaust header off the get to the filter....

I got it real easy on my oil changes though....I call up a buddy of mine, ride over to his house with the oil and filter in the saddlebag, and let him do it lol I'm too damn fat to get on the ground for that stuff
