New 2002 2 Years, 5 Months ago
Picked up a new (to me) 2002 Road Star a couple weeks back. Has some cosmetic issues but seems fine mechanically except for the belt being too tight & not adjusted right. Waiting on a lift to be delivered so I can get that right before I do any riding.

Been riding motorcycles off & on for the last 35 years. This is my first big cruiser. Have been reading tech articles. Lots of good info here. Not going to get into any major mods but am considering dumping the AIS & eliminating the fuel pump.

I am somewhat concerned about whether or not the trans recall work has been done. Took the VIN to my local Yamaha shop & they looked it up for me. They couldn't tell me when the work had been done but said that pulling the VIN up didn't show any recall work required.

Contact BubbaKahuna here at the RSC. He can run your number and tell for sure if the trans recall has been done. It's worth getting it done.

You obviously haven't been here long enough yet. Things will start with those minor mods like the rest of us and then, well, these guys around here are very sneaky and very good at getting you to open your wallet on your Roadie.

Run your VIN# here. If it hasn't been done here, it hasn't been done. https://www.yamaha-dealers.com/ymus/common/techpubs/nhtsaPublications.html

You should have the oil pump gear upgraded to the newer one. Cost is just the part as they have to remove the old one when fixing the tranny anyway.
