Help! I need... 2 Weeks, 2 Days ago
A good friend bought a '99 at my insistence. Got it home and could feel the belt was loose. Went to look to adjust, and saw it was nearly all the way back already.

Thought... that's strange. Didn't know the belt could stretch. Pulled the front pulley cover to inspect the nut, and found the problem.

The teeth on the stock front 33-tooth pulley were at least HALF GONE... just worn way down!!! No wonder the belt was loose.

Never saw or heard of THAT one before!

Anyway, does anyone have a good 33-tooth pulley they're willing to part with???

Not likely the steel stock pulley but an aluminum aftermarket one that were prone to this, could be wrong though.

Never heard of a stock steel pulley wearing down.
Used on eBay run about $90 from what I've seen.
I might have a good stock steel front pulley in my barn, I'll have to get back to you.

Yeh, honest... this was a stock steelie! I couldn't believe it myself!!!

Ain't never seen nuthin' like it before!

I find 'em on eBay, startin' as low as $42, but I'd prefer to do business with an RSC brother, if I could.

Bubba, thanks for the offer... I snagged one off the FB side from a brother in Arkansas for $40 + ship, $47.20. Pretty good deal, I think. I'd closed the deal before I saw your offer here... Thank you.

Okay! Necessary update to the story... I JUST got the old pulley off, and much to my surprise, it WAS an aluminum one... I'd never seen one before, and it was an exact replica in appearance to the stock steel pulley... but, it was crap!

The moral remains the same... if there are any remaining aluminum 31 tooth pulleys out there... Do NOT be tempted to buy and install that thing at any price! They're just not worth anything at all!!!

You have been warned... AGAIN!

Glad it worked out for you!

I wouldn't say aluminum pulleys are all junk, the rear are aluminum & they don't usually have problems.
That being said, steel IS a lot tougher than aluminum ...

I'd suspect that bike has been on the receiving end of a LOT of burnouts.
I also wonder how many belts it's gone through to shred a pulley.
