There is an article here on the forum about adopting a HD inner and outter to work on a R*. I bought an aftermarket shell for Jeannies bike on Ebay for like $300 and that made it MUCH easier. Back when I did mine, there were only a few available and they wanted bike bucks for them (like quadzilla) so that's why I went for the stock HD fairing and lots of help from people here on the Clinic.

Added some ghost flames, hard bag run and stop lights and a third break light built in the trunk spoiler. Again, I hope the pics post.

I used the stock three point mounting accessory rack from yamaha. I then cut a piece of 3/4 plywood as a base painted black and attached the base to the rack using horseshoe bolts from Home Depot. Then I just drilled the plywood to mount the trunk and wraped the plywood with some scrap aluminum. Cheap but effective. The set-up lets me remove the trunk just by removing 3 bolts that attach to the rear fender and I have some quick disconnects that hide behind the license plate for the spoiler-mounted brake light.
