Interesting carb observation... 4 Years, 5 Months ago
After digging into dearps carb yesterday and then mine today I noticed his 2000 starter jet has a hole in it and my 2002 did not. My other R* is a 2000 and it does not either. I always read that the 04 and up carb'd bikes did not have one and the early ones did, but here are 2 that don't. I know there is no telling what has been changed over the years since neither one of us have owned these since new but we have 2 - 2000's that are different. I put dearps carb on my bike (which has the starter jet with a hole in it) and the carb that was pulled did not. Both seem to start the same. I guess I am just wondering what mamayamaha's thinking was by having the 2 different set-ups.

Looking up the parts it shows the 99's having a 57.5 and the rest having a 0.6 but that doesn't jive with what I am seeing in the "real" world.

Makes me want to check my title but knowing DHY in NJ was in it with the crap job they did makes me wonder.
Maybe mine was built with 99 left overs lol

I'm not saying yours is wrong, but it just seems like they should all be the same or I guess I could see the 1600's having one set-up and 1700 the other or possibly like Ortho mentioned a Cali thing, but I know for sure neither of mine are Cali's nor have any of the bikes I have owned and I have seen the carbs both ways through the years. I have seen more w/o the hole than with and I have owned WAY more 99-03's.
Oh and if you want to see a crap job you should see what I pulled out of my carb - 167.5 main (thats fine) 40 pilot (large for a 1600 I think) the slide spring has been cut, and it had the stock needle with 5 yes 5 washers of different thicknesses plus the stock spacer raising the needle. The bike ran good though so I guess it goes to show there are different ways to accomplish the same thing.

Take this into consideration ... Mine is a Japan Market bike. I have run across many minor differences in original parts and the OEM parts that I get from the US.

Exhaust is different. Airbox is different. Meter's electrical is different. No AIS ever.

Just a thought.

No tell what PO's have put on or pulled off on used bikes. You may never figure out why or who for that matter.

In this thread Musky says that 99 was the only year with a hole in it. I wonder if dearps bike is an early 2000 that might have gotten a left over 99 carb. Does that mean that the 0.6 jet actually is just a plug? Strange how they would put a number on it at all besides 0. What Musky says makes sense according to the parts schematics though.

i don't understand what a starter jet is anyway.
Seems like I would hear of people changing sizes just like we do for the other 2 jets.

carbs have so many friggin "circuits".
... the coasting enricher and accelerator pump seem like afterthought, version 2.0 items.

oh well, mine is running fine so i'm happy

never even looked at mine when i had the carbs off of them. swapped out the other jets, and since the enrichers were fine, ignored them. i had always read here, that the 1600's had the hole, and the 1700's didn't. i'll look next time. i know at least one of my bikes....their both 01's......has the original carb for sure.
