passenger floorboards 12 Years, 8 Months ago
I am new to having a Road Star and want to install passenger floorboards. The bolts are behind the pipes and the socket wont fit. Do you have to remove the pipes? Also, don't have a manual yet so I can't see how to remove the side covers. Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Well, I figured out the floorboards. Could still use help with removing the side covers though.

Post edited by: windyrhodes, at: 2005/06/26 14:09

The side covers are held in by three bolts. There is one on the back edge of each side cover (the ones you can see), and one that holds the right side cover into a frame tab just below the seat.

Take out the two side bolts, then the left side cover will will pull out from its nose attachment to the right side cover. They held together by a friction fitted post that runs between the two. You will prbably need to rock it in and out a little to remove it, but it will come.

Once the left cover is off, you will see a 10mm bolt (head facing toward left side of bike) that holds the nose of the right side cover into the frame tab. It bolts through the frame tab and threads into the side cover.

Take out that 10mm bolt and the right side will come right out.
