Morning jso

I didn't see a post so maybe a PM? I'm sure you didn't mean to offend anyone. I also hope that we aren't going down that road with having watch what we say so close. I wouldn't take offense if someone from Canada or England or wherever said it's not their way.

Most of the guys I ride with own Harleys. We do give each other a hard time all in fun, but dollar for dollar , pound for pound the only difference is resale vaule, but that is due to their great marketing. We all know if we have riden with the harleys our bikes are as fast or faster, and ride just as good or better. When I first started looking at purchasing a bigger bike , my first was a 650 yamaha silverado. I looked at all the different brands including a harley. Call me cheap if you want, I just can't see paying for the name. I bought my 03 , which had only 4000 miles on her, for just a little over 8,000. A comparible softail or roadking was 15,000 or more. So the way I look at I have as good or better a bike at half the price. Being single and wanting to take care of my other responsiblities the roadstar is my bike of choice. If not owning a name makes me any less of the in crowd so be it. I am happy with my choice.

Its not a Harley, it is a Road Star, is actually fun to say. I do get a lot of compliments on my Harley and strange looks from some who think I must be out of my mind to have purchased anything other than a Harley. I came to a Road Star as the result of careful review of the available crusiers and found that this one met all of my wants and most of my desires and saved me at least $7,000. I rented a Harley and liked it very much. I am sure I could have been happy riding a Soft Tail Classic, but would have been short a lot more green and would not have gained a thing in the process. I ride with Harley's, Honda's, Kawasaki's and even a Suzuki or 2. I am never short of power or capacity and love the confidence I get with the stability of this scooter. At speed it is like a rock. In the wind it is like a rock. With a load it is like a rock. It pulls when I need it to pull, it stops when I need it to stop. It gets a lot of praise from both the knowledgable and the uninitiatied. There are times I want a Harley just so they will not dis me for riding an alternative scooter, but my Road Star makes me smile

Showed off my ride to a couple of Harley-ights last night and they were actually impressed. The one thing that stood out was that it is belt driven. After shoot'in the sh*t for a while my one buddy said..."hey, since you have been working on your own bike maybe you could help me with my oil leak." I told him..."it's a Harley, it's supposed to do that!"

Post edited by: Yamahawg, at: 2007/04/03 12:45

I like to RIDE. My philosophy is what your riding is secondary to the ride itself. If all I could afford is an old Honda 350, that's what I'd be riding. Emphasis on the "I'd be riding". And I'd be damn proud of it too. At this point in my life I can afford something nice, and I'm able to personalize it. I can make it eye candy as well as a great ride. But what ever it looks like or it's brand or size or age,
I ride to be in the wind. It's a personal thing. If the wind is hitting my face I'm smiling, no matter what I'm on.

Works better if you have the windshield off.
