Engine guards 11 Years, 7 Months ago
Could someone tell me what brand of engine guards to buy?? I am looking for ones that look big and full. also...what are the differences between the 1.25 inch and the 1.50inch other than just bigger. I guess what I want to know is what are most star riders using?? Also I see where highway lights could be mounted on the windshield frame. Is this right or do I have to buy a light bar too? Thank You for any info.

Hey georgeg

I have the Yamaha Big bars on mine. The 1.5 bars are just fatter than the 1.25 as far as I know. Just a beefier look. I don't know if there is a "what most" R* riders use. I suppose the Yami big bars are pretty popular. One thing you might need to consider is floorboard extensions. If you are ever planning on putting them on it limits your bar choices. As far as I know the only 2 bars you can use with the floorboard exts are the Yamaha big bar and the Road King bar. I can't help you with passing lamps on the windshield frame.

Here is my .02 worth. I bought the cobra 1.25 crash bars. I like them and I really wanted the fatty bars although I already had the p clamps and the highway pegs that I spent $100.00 on. I did not want to have to buy new ones. Anyway, the cobras fit real close to the front side of the floorboards. So if you do plan on using some kind of forward controlls, it would not be possible with the cobra bars. I wanted to star with Star accessories although they are the fatty 1.50".

Ride safe

Put the big OEM bars on my 04. Like the way they went on and the way they look. They came in handy last week when I started to leave my daughters house and had put the kickstand up but thought of something else I wanted to take with me. Forgetting that the kickstand was up, leaned the bike to the left and suprise, suprise, down she went. Fortunately I parked on the lawn. I wasn't even drinking. Senior moment I suppose. My son-in-law was amused.
