Yup, NO play. If there is, you've got a problem.

However, it IS possible to clean everything up, red Loctite everything, not just the nut threads, but all contacting surfaces, and it can hold.

Mine had some play, after I found it loose, and someone else here said I could do that... that were right. But, I need to pull the cover and check it again before this season of riding, just to make certain.

Ugh! not what I want to hear but I get it. Didn't make it to Napa before they closed so I'll try to get to Harbor freight tomorrow maybe.

It's likely just your pulley that is worn since it is softer than the hardened shaft. It's a great opportunity to change your gear ratio. DK what size your primary is. I went from 32T to 33T and love it. You probably already have a 33T.

Its either 32 or 33. If it is 32 I would for sure want to go to 33 since I am always looking for that one last gear.

it happened to me before i knew there could be such a problem..... cost me $$$$ to replace worn parts.
this is what i use and recomend.... for the splins http://www.henkel-adhesives.com.au/3319_AUE_HTML.htm?nodeid=8797928521729 and then use high strength thread lock on the nut.

OK I finally got a proper socket to remove the pulley, here is what I found:

and

Looks like some wear on the shaft and none on the pulley, at least to me. There is no lock washer or a slot in the shaft for one either.

Guess I'll pick up the Loctite 680 Masterhermit suggested and see what it does.

Others thoughts?

Can't see the photos, but I think you need a Stratoliner!

OK, fixed the photo's

I would consider that if Mama wouldn't castrate me if I did. Besides I have some fancy paint coming. Hoping the loctite will get me through the year and I will revisit this winter. Is replacing that shaft a terrible job?

A few members have replaced the shaft and said it was relatively straight forward, just time consuming.

Mine was worn, and had some play, too. I used the Red Loctite on every mating surface. Glued it all together, not just the nut threads.

Try it!
