The ceremony took place on October 28th, his 62nd birthday. Just before his first deployment to Iraq in Desert Storm, he had the choice of leading his group to sending someone else to lead his guy's. I do not know how all of that works.... I and my son visited him at Ft Bragg 2 days before they left. We had the honor of spending time with Ralph's "kids"....19/20 yr olds..... They looked up to him and he led them as if they were his own. I know that to serve 42 continuous years in service to your country is an honor only reserved for the few. The Army "Needed" your brother. They just don't allow anyone to serve that long!!!
