Can you post a pic of 1 front and 1 rear plug color?
I think you are getting way off track with all the coil stuff. The rear fouling issue is common when jetted rich and you are jetted rich. When is your jet gonna be there?
Well... here's the side-side pic of the set I just removed. Got a brand new set of iridiums in there now, jetted 172.5 mikuni jet, and set the pms to 2 turns out, needle on the 3rd groove (from the top), washer under clip. Here's to crossing my fingers, will be taking a test run in the morning.
I also dumped 6oz of Ring Free into the tank and filled her up with fresh fuel. Got an oil change kit on stand-by.
On a side note, can these plugs be cleaned with like DeepCreep and reused? Or are they junk? Getting expensive throwing $12 plugs in the trash.

Not sure what you have going on there but there is something funny. 2 of them look OK and 2 very rich. Your jetting is correct at 172.5 main 40 pilot. you may want to recheck the needle groove setting because the 3rd groove should result in a lean setting across the board. I just done one and accidentally put the clip in the wrong groove because I didn't have my glasses on. That took a minute or 2 to figure out why the bike was running wrong. You might also want to remove the spark plug caps and clip a little off the end of the wire reinstall the cap run it and see if it takes care of the issue. You can clean the plugs rather than throwing them out. I usually spray them with carb cleaner or starting fluid then dry them with a propane torch until most if not all the carbon is burned off. When jetted properly the plugs will self clean if they are sparking and not carbon fouled.
Did you check to see if your choke was shutting off all the way. You can do that by looking at the choke cable right at the bend where it goes into the carb. When you push in the choke knob in you should see the metal tube move a little bit at the nut. That happens when the choke pintle seats and shuts off fuel enrichment.

You didn't mention compression numbers... My money is still on misfire. Either bad cable, bad coil, or bad cap. (trimming the cable and reconnect was a great suggestion)

Yea, I did the choke knob trim a little while back, so pretty sure it's closing all the way.
Did about 1hr of hard riding today, pounded the rev limiter a few times lol. Still have 3/4 of a tank of fuel with the 6oz of ring free in it. It does seem more responsive in the mid-range. Guess that would be a result of the leaner main. Plugs look like this after the ride (rear on the left, front on the right)
Compression numbers were 150psi front dry, 155psi rear dry.
I also trimmed up about 1/4" off the spark plug wires as suggested, ty.
Verified the needle is indeed, clip on 3rd groove down, then washer, then big fat vinyl thingy.

Are you still running the original needle and seat?
The clip in the 3rd, and the bike still running fine, seems a bit odd.
I can't see the difference in the 172.5, and the 175 making that kind of a difference, but that's just me.
Were those brand new plugs before the short ride in the last pic, or did you clean up the others and use them?

Yes, brand new plugs. Not sure about the needle/seat. It's w/e the PO put in.

Watch things and see what happens. Your plugs(in the first pic)look like the ones I pulled out of my solo bike, when the rear plugs stopped firing. My float was to high I'm pretty sure. IMHO, it wasn't the clip position and 175 that was causing a problem for you. I'm wondering if cheating to the lean on the needle, is covering a needle and seat that's letting fuel creep past somewhere.
What was your mileage prior to the rear plugs giving up?
I'm not saying the bike won't run fine with a 172.5, but the needle in the 3rd, is giving me pause. The two combined, is interesting.

Leave the 172.5 main in you aren't running WOT anyway where you need to change is the needle leave the clip on 3 and move the white spacer up under the E-clip and put TWO silver washers under the white spacer, put a 37.5 pilot in if you don't want to run the stock 35 pilot. Set the PMS at 2 turns out and ride for 15 minutes then tune the PMS per my instructions that I will email you if you send me your e-mail address. My rule of thumb is if PMS is less turn out than 2 IE (1 turn) then you go to the next smaller pilot jet, if the PMS is out (3 or more) then you go to the next larger pilot jet. Best range for the PMS is around 1 3/4 to 2 3/4 with two being the sweet spot.

Wouldn't putting 2 washers below the clip be the same as running on the 4th clip with no washers?

Yes it would be like being on groove 3 1/2 either way and install a larger pilot jet.

It's not so much we think he's into lean territory, as much as he seems to feel the bike is running well there.
