Glad you came out standing buddy. Was it a rubber valve stem? Did they put a new one in when they changed the tire?
Yes it was a rubber valve stem. No he did not replace the valve stem. I should have told him to but did not ask him to. From now on its change the valve stem with every tire change and with a metal bolt on.

I posted this exact same thing I believe in 2012. First to address the ride on. It does not work in this situation. I had new tires with the bent valve stem and rubber base. Mine happened at over 75mph with my grandson on the back and towing a trailer. The rear tire went just like that. I like to think it was my skill that kept us upright, but I believe in divine intervention. After waiting 1.5 hours for a tow, I got a new tire though the old one showed no damage. 2 hours later back on the road. About an hour later the front tire went in the same fashion. This time I was already slowing down coming into town.
I am a stickler for my tire pressure monitoring. The moral is DON'T use the rubber based valve stems period!!!!
If you have them, replace them asap

backinthesaddle, I am glad that you were able to get it to stop. Glad that you and your grandson were not hurt. I'm telling you, this man was praying hard as I was going down. Just glad I was able to slow it down before my bike went down. Front tire blow outs are just the scariest thing to happen to me since I've been riding ( 40 years ). Little experience , praying, and situational circumstances all helped me survive this !!!

Sad to see this news, but glad you're OK. Bruises and soreness will heal, and the steel steed can be replaced. You cannot. Heal fast and well - everyone else, be safe out there!
