3 years ago... 5 Years, 5 Months ago
Three years ago today, I took off on a 5 day road trip with 4 friends. 2 are gone now, one pulled out of the trip at the last minute, and never rode again, as the day we came back he fell ill, and discovered that he had cancer. Never left the hospital. Kenny Bob (liked to build bobbers, not his real name) was killed in a collision with an elderly lady making a left in front of him.

This song and video make me think of them.

I'm sorry for your personal loss. We think our groups of peers are going to last forever. It is such an awful shock when suddenly everything is changed.

You remember them well. One can only ask for that.

Re:3 years ago... 5 Years, 5 Months ago
Kinda strange. I've known that song since it came out, but never seen the video till about 2 years ago. Blackie Lawless is a life-long motorcyclist, and he supposedly wrote this song about a friend's experience, and the video somewhat reflects the circumstance.
I guess it goes to show you that you should never take a moment for granted, and skip the things that make you happy. We all have responsibilities in life beyond ourselves, but ya gotta take your own time every once in a while. All of us that went on that trip have reflected on how much better we would feel about Dave if he had gone with us, but he skipped it for work. My wife's stepfather went on a 240 mile run with me on the Sunday before he went into the hospital on Tuesday morning with terminal cancer.
I think it was Peter Eagan, years ago in Cycle World that wrote about this very thing. In 20 years, (should you live that long past it) you'll never remember why you skipped that trip, but if you go, you will never forget the experience.
Ride Safe, and Ride Long.

JD, your post totally hit home today. I am in the middle of a 5 day trip right now with my brother and his girl and we too had a friend back out at the last minute. RIP to your friends, God bless them.

Can do wonders when you're not feeling the greatest.
