Re:Need Jetting assist 5 Months, 1 Week ago
I will give this a try today when I am headed home, how would one tell what the RPMs are with out a Tach?
During lunch today I pulled the enricher out a little bit but the bike would not stay idling while sitting there, I took off and it was like the bike had to sneeze or hick-up before it was driving right. this is that kind of bubble thing I was describing, after it did that then it was driving ok, yet I still have the popping.
Thanks for the help Skwear.

Try a google search for Road Star 900 rpms, and see if a YouTube by JD shows up, and you can also search the forum, by using the Search Forum in the blue banner above.

Re:Need Jetting assist 5 Months, 1 Week ago
well, I did raise the idle a little bit and pulled the enricher out 1/2 way out this morning and there was no more popping. I will start looking for a vacuum leak.

I have had it running on a stand for a couple of weeks while I cleaned and polished her up.

SKWEARpeg and davej, you guys are AWESOME. And to anyone else THANKS!

I followed all advice and this runs awesome.

As for the decel pop, very little now and only under very hard decel.

Thanks Again!

How many gallons of gas did you need to keep it running on that stand for a couple of weeks?
Thanks

The decel popping you said is still there just not as bad?
I cleaned my air filter which is part of the barons big air and replaced plugs which minimized the popping but like yours it's still there just not as bad. I don't know what started all of this but it has been a little frustrating over time Does your bike have like a hiccup on occasion when taking off, it really feels as if a bubble pops then the bike will run fine? I am wondering if I need to try to adjust the carb but doing that I may be a little out of my element, I don't even think I would know where to start. I don't know why a bike would run just fine for so long then start doing this.
thanks

Check at the manifold to head flanges for an air leak, and also make sure the Coasting Enricher cover is not cracked.

I’d also take a look at the exhaust gaskets. The torque may have decreased after the first few hot and cold cycles, or somebody may have used something other then the Yamaha OEM exhaust gaskets.

SKWEAR
Do you think that would also cause the little hesitation when taking off? It's almost like a bloop noise, it does not always do it but will try to just stall just a bit then take off like normal, while riding everything is fine with acceleration.

Re:Need Jetting assist 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Make sure your idle is close to 900rpms, as well as checking the other stuff.
Yes, it can cause that if there is a leak. The throttle plate is closed, and the vacuum in the manifold is as high as it will get then. It only gets greater, when you close the throttle and use the motor to slow the bike down. That causes the vacuum to spike enough to pull extra fuel through the Coasting Enricher circuit.

If the exhaust gaskets are leaking, it introduces oxygen into the pipes right at the head, and the fresh air can combust any unburned fuel in the exhaust. Which is how the AIS works, when it is still installed on the bike.
