Hello Everyone
I am having some issues with my 2013 Road star. I have owned the bike for about two months now, and once i got used to the bike i noticed something was off. When accelerating in first and second gear the bike bogs down or acts like it is not getting enough fuel. Also i am experiencing backfiring through the breather. I went to take up yesterday it backfired through the breather and died. The bike has 20K on it. I have changed the plugs, and ran premium gas with seafoam in it with no change. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have stock pipes and intake? Make sure the O2 sensors are connected. Don't use premium fuel, use 87 regular. Has it been sitting for a while since it ran well? If so, may have bad fuel and need to be cleaned out. If you removed the AIS, make sure any rubber caps you installed are still good. |

Sounds like your having the same problems as me. In temperatures above 30C my bike is doing the same thing. Unfortunately I haven't been able to solve the problem yet. But when I took the breather off I noticed an oil film on the intake (used a cheap ass oil last oil change) won't do that again.

Remove the rear valve cover vent hose from the back of the intake box and attach it to a separate small filter so you don't dump oil fumes into the intake. Be sure to then cap the port where you removed the hose. Also only put in 4 quarts of oil and forget about it until the next oil change. Too much oil and the engine will just push it out. Don't use the dip stick. It is nortiously incorrect.

It does have stock pipes. However i drilled holes in the baffles to make it louder. But it was doing this before i drilled the exhaust.

Replace the intank fuel filter, it is in the fuel pump module. you can get them from Quantum Fuel Systems. the only place I could find them besides paying Yamaha 399 for a pump assy.

Shores, Thanks for the reply. What type of small filter would you recommend? The little plastic ones you would find on a lawn tractor?

No. Like a breather filter. Like what you see on old cars. I got a couple of mine at Orielly's. I extended mine down to the bottom of the bike with extra rubber tubing and put the breather filter down there.
