#1008619 Seal_Bch_Tom (User) Senior Boarder Posts: 370 Bad Drain Plug...Removing Oil??? 10 Months, 1 Week ago   So the last guy who changed my oil rounded the drain plug edges so now I'm having one hell of a time trying to remove the drain plug. #1.Tried a craftsman box end wrench, even ground the end down so there was more clearance to fit over the bolt. Tried the open end also. No luck. #2.Tried to put a flat spot on the shoulder flange to try and break the bolt by tapping in a counter clockwise direction. No luck. #3.Tried to grab the flats of the drain bolt with a vise-grip. No luck. Going to try and find a 6 point box end tomorrow. Also thought about drilling a hole through the bolt head to try and put a rod, nail through the hole so I can rotate it. Anyone had to put a tube into the engine to suck out the oil? I also have great luck with channel lock brand pliers, the bottom jaw is flat and the top jaw is a v shape handle is bluish green, they seem to grab everything even round tie rod ends for alignments,,, before you buy new tool I assume a monkey wrench won't access the plug? I would like to mention six point is always preferred,, the 12 points are for the stupid German shit no one wants to fix. I'm kind of an animal. Generally when I use them, its almost as tough to unlock them, as it was to lock them. Get the bike up on a lift so you can work under it easier if you aren't there already. Clamp those babies on so you can tap the jaw with a hammer while applying pressure. So you and I think exactly alike...did all that. The damn drain plug seems to be made of very very soft metal. The problem is it's location. Not much fits in that space. I used a small chisel and started tapping on the head of the bolt in a counter-clockwise direction. I almost crapped myself when after about 3 taps it broke loose. I tried almost everything in my toolbox. I have to thank my buddy for the suggestion.Just another option for you. I like the idea of heating it. Was thinking about that too. So far have struck out all day. Tried tapping with a punch, no luck. Went and bought two 6 point box end wrenches, one Proto, the other Craftsman. Both have surprisingly very think ends. I decided to grind down the Craftsman. Still wouldn't go over the bolt. It's been buggered up pretty good.
