I didn't even thing about doing it that way. I just bought the kit and chucked the AIS. No trouble with it though.

Just a follow up. Go with the complete removal. I did it last weekend. 3 beers and a skinned knuckle, it was worth the time and effort. The front of the bike has a nice clean look.

I feel there is the added benefit of increased airflow around and through the engine area and most significantly keeping that carb cooler to prevent gas boil on those friggin superhot days. Removing that garbage just gotta help that.

Wanted to add a quick note on the install of the AIS removal kit on an '08 R*...
The kit I purchased (LA choppers version) had four items in it: 2 block-off flanges, a rubber cap, and a plastic plug.
For the '08 model the only parts it appears you need are the 2 block-off flanges, one for each cylinder. NEITHER of the two plastic parts appear to apply to the '08. If anyone thinks I'm wrong on this I'd appreciate a head's up so I can do a proper install.
In my experience the removal of the AIS on an '08 immediately resolved a backfiring / popping issue introduced by install of aftermarket pipes (Dooley's) and BAK (Baron's).

I have an 06' Roadie. My kit comes in tomorrow. Can I use the 04' edition of disconnecting the ais? Or do they have something specific for 05'-11's? Thanks.
