Leather Jacket and Chaps 9 Years, 1 Month ago
I've been looking over LeatherUp.com options and would like your opinions.

I'm considering getting a "Men's Zipper-Side Motorcycle Cruiser Jacket" #9113 or a "Classic Men's Cruiser Vented Premium Motorcycle Jackets" #B7202

What should I be looking for in a jacket and chaps to run in colder weather? (I'm 6'3" and run about 40 minutes one way.)

Is the "naked leather" much better than premium cowhide, or buffalo? Is it wise to get removable armor in the elbows, shoulders and/or back?

Thanks for your help...

I dont know which is better, but pay attention to the sizes. On alot of the product made in Asia and Pakistan the sizes run small. YOu might want to confirm that with them before you order. Good luck.

Well I bit the bullet and bought a Fox Creek Leather jacket. They are pricey but you can tell the difference, 1.4-1.6 naked leather, smooth as silk, with pads and liner along with a lifetime guarantee, Plus made in USA. Don't think I'll need to buy another winter leather jacket.

Be carefull of the cheaper leather. Alot of it is made from cheap pig skin now adays (especially the pakastain or india leather).

Me and my wife made that mistake and after going through the first rain of the season the jackets look like they have aged 10 years.

I would suggest to fork out the bucks for some good quality leather.
Might want to check out this WWW.overstock.com , the fitting is explained alittle more in detail. Looks about like the same jacket ur looking at. link below if it goes through.

Very nice jacket, how much more for the armmor? I noticed it wasn't included.
We have a local Leather shop here that sells mostly Motorcyle apparel, real good prices too, and I believe he sells on the web. I'll see if I can get you a weblink if you are interested.

I think it was about $150 more for the armour, back, shoulders and elbows. The exact pricing is on their web site.

A couple of things to keep in mind. Velcro is your friend, snaps are not fun in gloves. make sure whatever you get seals good at the neck, the wrists, and the waist. If you can find one with a removable liner then you'll be able to wear it in fairer weather as well.

I also bought a jacket, gloves, and chaps from Fox Creek Leather. Their stuff is expensive but the quality is top notch.

Ditto on the Fox Leather, but I got the http://www.foxcreekleather.com/351.html
they are real good in helping to size you. I don't believe they had the armor a couple of years ago when I got mine. I also got an electric liner to wear instead of the Thinsulate one for when it gets a bit chillier out.

I did get some armor recently at at http://www.actionstation.com/catalog/proddetail.php?prod=KAJACKET
Product ID: KAJACKET D205 Bohn Jacket Armor Kit Price: $65.00

RayJay - I would order from Leatherup.coms supplier, http://myleather.com/. My friend ordered a few things and said not to worry about the stated $300 minimum ... unless you want that much stuff from them.
