Recommendations for saddlebags? 9 Years, 2 Months ago
Anyone have any recommendations for saddlebags? Nylon vs. leather? Bolt-on vs. throwover? The star silverado bags are nice but also very expensive.

star bags are very small. anyone will tell you get what you want. How do plan to use them? If you plan on touring go big. dennis Kirk has some saddlemen bags on clearance that are worth checking out. I believe Musky said you should really go with a minimum of 20 inches(length) for the bags to look good on the roadstar.
another consideration is if you are running stock pipes or aftermarket. I wish you well

I will put a plug in for hard bags. I have had both, and the convenience (water proof and lockable) of hard bags really grows on you.

i prefer leather i always feel like i can squeeze one extra thing in them since the flex a bit, for hard bags ive never found them to be big enough but ive also only see harley hard bags

i love my hardmounted saddlemen bags

i also have the stock silverado saddlebags if youd want to buy them

It's all personal preference as far as looks. If you go soft (leather or vinyl) bags, I'd recommend Easy Brackets or Ghost Brackets. I just got some Heavy Duty/Carroll Leather bags from Carolina Leather Works (click here to check out their website) for Christmas, and LOVE them. Carolina Leather Works has THE BEST prices on this style of saddlebags. I mounted them with Easy brackets... they're made with hardened & very stiff back sides so Easy Brackets works very well. They're leather - I wouldn't recommend vinyl, as it just doesn't look as good. I had a pair of vinyl/synthetic bags on my old V-Star, and didn't like it.

:-DD.

One word of advice: If you go with the hard bags see about also investing in the lowering kit from Geno.

They lower the bags down a bit and it's way more appealing visually. At least that's what I think.

I second the advice about the Geno's. That is one mod that IMO really pulls the look together when using hard bags, specially the stock ones.
