The following posts illustrate the various method of float measurements and the equivalent measurement for each method.
OEM (performed on bench)- 3.5 mm using gas
OEM (performed on bench)- 8.0 mm using water

Carb level, bowl removed, fuel line attached and either gas or water used for supply. The floats were compressed just until the flow of fluid was stopped.
Gas - 14.5
Water - 14.5

Bowl removed and carb upside down with needle just barely touching the seat - 20

Hey Doc are the settings the same for both motors???..I am interested in the seam to float bottom flipped on my table for the 1700... Coug

No these are for the good motor .... 1600
We had some discussions a while back. I believe that with the carb upside and the float fully depressed there is really no relationship between that reading and when the needle turns off the flow of gas. However, I'd have to do more testing to see if my theory is correct or not.

What I found interesting when doing the stock adjustment was that the reading with gas and water was different. I repeated it to make sure and got the same readings.
Upon reflection I guess it's to be expected as the surface tension of water is more than gas but I did not expect it to be that great.
