Best size main jet with dynojet? 2 Years, 9 Months ago
Bike is at sea level in California.

I have the Dynojet kit installed in my 06 roadster engine.
I used all of Dynojets recommendations.
Dynojet pilot jet.
Mixture screw at 2.5 turns out. Runs good. Started at 3 turns out( Dynojet recommendation).
Slide Needle groove #4.

K&N 066 filter and cobra baloney cut exhausts.

The instructions said to start with a 200 main jet with aftermarket exhausts. Which I am using.
It says to use the #195 main jet with stock exhausts.
It is running fine, but it could be too rich.
When I give it throttle I can see black soot come from the exhaust for a second.

Now it starts perfect on choke.
Warms up fast.
Idles fine.
No popping on decell in the shop, and no popping on decel on the road test.

Any suggestions?

The 172.5 Mikuni seems to be the hot main for a setup like yours. That would be right around a 184 in a Dynojet main. I'd drop the 184 in and leave the rest as it is (IF you want to stay with all DJ) . Sounds like you're real close except for the main is pretty large for the skinnier taper of the aftermarket needle.

I have the DJ needle with Mikuni jets in mine

Here's the sizing chart: http://www.jetsrus.com/FAQs/FAQ_mikuni_vs_dynojet_vs_keihin_sizes.htm

My suggestion would be to go get a Mikuni 172.5 they are easier to find locally than a dynojet brand. A dynojet would be a 184 but like I said that is an equivelent to the 172.5 so why play around ordering one. Just go to a local shop and get the Mikuni.

DJ 185 is as close to a Mikuni 172.5 as you can get try that if you have one. The Chart for Mikuni VS DJ are in the tech articles.

I have a 1700, K&N with modified stock air filter housing, ported intake and Vance & Hines Big Shots. I bought the DJ kit and started @ the 200 and progressively worked down to the 185, #37 pilot get, DJ needle jet with clip at 3.5 groove and mixture screw ~2 turns out. Pipe baffles still have quit a bit of black soot, but bike runs really well. I'm still playing around with baffle design, so I won't try to fine tune it until I get the back pressure where it's going to stay.
