Update - Almost 700 miles on this weekend and she is running great. Good power and I hit 45mpg with an average of about 41. Still have to make a little adjustment to the PMS but I was smiling all the way. Made a run to Savanna Illinois to Poopy's Pub. Got a lot of good comments on the Roadie. Thanks for all of your help guys!

If your profile is correct You are real close and should be fine. But IMO you should be on the 4th groove on the needle or at least 3rd with 2 washers under the clip but if it is running good the way it is ride it for a bit and see if you have any ill effects.

For a 1700 my recommendation is Barons kit 172.5 main jet, 40 pilot, clip in 4th groove 1 washer under the clip or 3rd groove 2 washers under the clip (both will work) and PMS 2-2 1/2 turns out

Always remember the fat plastic spacer in the stack up, doesn't count as a washer. No matter what else is under the clip, that spacer has to be there. Just a reminder for the new guys. W/O that plastic spacer, nobody will have a clue where you are. W/O it, the needle(mid range) gets a whole lot leaner.

I guess I always think of that as a given but I should mention it in case it is missing from the last guy in there.

I still remember all the stack up threads, from when I first joined. The "literal" world. If it's not in the post, it gets left on the counter.

I have a 2006 1700 Roadstar K&N Ra66 filter, Cobra baloney cut exhausts, no AIS.
I bought the Dynojet kit and told them how the bike was set up.
They require that.

I installed the parts they recommended and it runs and starts perfect.

I have the special PMS mixture screw and it is set close to 2-1/4 turns open.

I am using the 200 main jet. I am at sea level.

It does smell rich but only if I give it the throttle while sitting still.
Not warmed up but choke is off.

On the 1700 the stock main jet was a 200.
Dynojet has changed the slide needle to get the proper mixture.

My exhaust is not sooty.

Like the engineer at Dynojet says, " If you reach the top end in any gear and runs correctly, (no popping,
And keeps accelerating) then the main jet is correct". Otherwise you do not have to be in high gear to check the main jet function, just wide open throttle.

The Mikuni jet size is the FLOW RATE. ( who at home or dealership can measure flow rate?)
The Dynojet man jet #200 is the size of the hole in the jet. (good method)

The stock main on a 1700 is a 182.5 Mikuni. not a 200 I agree that it would be hard to measure flow rate at home but it isn't hard at all to measure AFR when you have a meter to do so. A 200 is way rich just read what you wrote

"It does smell rich but only if I give it the throttle while sitting still.
Not warmed up but choke is off".

It will also give a bit of bog/sag in the throttle response when dumping the throttle right into WOT so the engineers theory is flawed. What does that even mean "reach top end in any gear" does he mean hit the limiter??? I can hit the limiter with just about any main jet and it don't make it the correct one. I believe I talked to the same guy and I really doubt that he is a engineer except maybe in title. There have been measurement comparisons between Barons, dynojet, and speedstar needles and they are all about the same. (Thank you Witt33 for the measurements) The dynojet needle is thicker in the main straight part of the shaft 2.94 compared to Barons 2.92. This measurement goes down 30mm, then the dynojet taper is thinner than the barons all the way to the end. The dynojet needle is also longer 62.80 compared to the Barons 62.45. With the taper thinner and the needle longer it is a richer needle than the Barons. That is the reason you can use a dynojet needle clip on a leaner groove. Groove 3 instead of 4. With this in mind go to the main jet comparison chart and see where the 200 main stands. It is way rich. It is equal to a 187.5 Mikuni regardless if it is measured in flow or not. The comparison chart has taken all that into consideration.

I have a 07 1700 with modified stock intake w/K&N filter and V&H Bigshots. I bought a Cobra Dynojet kit, I started at the recommended 200 main jet. This was way to rich, I'm down to a 185 main that I believe to be spot on. That's the equivalent of a Mikuni between 172.5 and 175, that's pretty typical for the 1700. I have a 37.5 PJ and the needle @ ~3.5 notches and PMS ~2-1/4 turns out. I think it's probably still a little rich in the mid-range, pipes a little sooty and gas mileage probably a little lower than some, about 33-35mpg.
