Two Bikes Two Purposes, a small rant. 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago
To start with, I would get another Road Star if I had the funds, storage and resources. I feel every bike has a purpose. Riding is an emotional affair as playing an instrument, painting or having a fine meal. My first bike, the 1100 V Star was a fun snappy, easy to handle bike. What was missing was the V twin staccato music only a single pin crank, push rod engine can make.
It was replaced with a 2006 Midnight Star. By adding a Big Ed seat the bike became the means for me to escape my daily routine and go places I would never bother to explore. A mini holiday. As great a bike that it is, some days after work I just want to blast around and make noise. The 06 initially had Bub Jug Huggers, but replaced them with Roadhouse Duals and the bike is very easy on the ears thus great for long rides. but like I was saying, sometimes I wanna rip around and sow some wild oats.
Along comes a 2003 with big bore package. That is my wild oats bike. Putting loud pipes, low hard dragger seat, no bags. That is my ride after work on a hot day without a windshield bike. Coffie shop with the boys talking bikes. Blast around some more then go home for beer and steak.
Getting back to the 06, that is the long haul over night in a pup tent bagger bike. Slow pace, take my time and enjoy the scenery bike. Pick up groceries, do service work off the bike, or cruise in comfort. I have never gone camping since 1997 so this summer going to at least go once using the bike.
Was going to sell the 06 but at a point in life where I realize there are only so many summers left, so may as well enjoy as much of it I can on the back of a bike.

Makes sense. I have 3 bikes and they all serve a very different purpose

I have my Road Star for longer rides, and bags for carrying something home. Then my little Triumph for shorter trips around town.
I'd like a 3rd, but no room in the garage right now. But, if the perfect bike comes around, the car will be sitting outside for a bit.

I usually have 2 bikes for the same type of reasons.
I have my 2012 electra glide that we call Tank because it is my go thru everything bike. It has a fairing, hook up for my heated gloves and jacket liner, removable fork lowers, crash bar chaps, and rear luggage, and also has the truck-lite led set-up. This bike is great for colder weather going back and forth to work. It is also nice for long trips. It is a good general purpose all around bike that can switch from a touring bike to a street glide in less than a minute. I can wear a full face on the way to work, and put it in the trunk for the way home. Basically it is my work horse.
I try to keep some sort of hot rod bike around for the "just for fun" rides, and my project bike.

I am trying something a little different with my new Star, I'm working on setting it up as a mix between the 2. Something that I can go windhsield less with for fun, or put it on and be able to use it as my general purpose/trip bike through the summer and use the HD for the cooler rides.

After about 10 years with 2 bikes, it seems really strange when I only have one bike. (last Time I made is 5 days before getting another one) i'm starting to think that 3 would be very practical. Now I just have to sell the wife on the idea.

Bikes are like guns each one is for a different purpose, and you never have enough so go out and get another. Mike/EZ
