I have 3 bikes and she does not give me crap for the risk involved. Monica is a smart cookie, and a fantastic wife and mom, and I won't keep her from doing something that makes her happy. Especially me!

My buddy bought his wife an HD 883, awesome smaller bike, she handle's it well, and it keeps up just fine out on the freeway 65/70 mph, they spent many weekend in an empty parking lot, practicing corning, hard breaking, swerving, and how to throw the bike around, then on to the safety course, passed with flying colors, and ride's like one of the guys now, most women I've seen solo, are not into dragging floor boards, or cornering like their hair is on fire...they are quite the easy motorcycle riders.
Just saying....I would love just to get my wife on behind me!!

Over in st.Charles,Mo. the motorcycle classes are taught with Honda shadow 250's.
A friend of mine bought a 2009 Suzuki GZ250,that looks like a mini Roadie.
He has passed away but I remember when I talked him threw a top end rebuild over the phone,He in Vernon,FL. and I in Warrenton,MO. Man those were the days! The bike fired right up after three days of repeating myself, and finally he understanding me on setting the timing marks with the valve train.

Thanks for all the input !! I want her to ride with me ! We do almost everything together and i join her in the things she likes to do .I shop ,grocerey store, yard sale an have date night every week an many other things . I dont think i would be much of a husband not to worry about her ! I checked yesterday on motorcycle course and checked on insurance and have been looking at bikes . So maybe i worded my question wrong and put to much of my thoughts in it by the remarks on here !! I think i caught a little HELL !!! I think the 250 will be a good start also an maybe find a V Star 650 . As usual the clinic has many thoughts an idea's an i am glad i found this site .

Good! There for just a minute, I didn't know if you understood.
Somebody mentioned that women are less likely to take the type of chances, and push things to the limit the way men sometimes do, on motorcycles(and other things). I think that is a good perspective.
Regarding the ride like a pro advice, one of the things that stuck in my mind from training exercises of a different type, was that if you don't turn the class time into road time(hands on time) pretty quickly, a lot of the detail disappears off the page, so to speak.

...and regarding bikes, pick the one for her to learn on, but let her pick the one she wants to call her own. Throw out some choices, and the two of you decide what price range your looking at, and let her go. Bikes are a very personal thing for most people. I think more so then cars, they tend to be an extension of who we are. Scooter76 looked at bikes for a few months before she settled on what she wanted, and then she spent more time looking for a good deal. She had a thread on here where people offered input and advice.

I would recommend the rider course and the Rebel is a good starter bike. My wife doesn't ride but two of my boys do.

I never started them, they did it on their own. Sometimes the worry for them shows up, but I just don't let my mind go there and dwell.

I know my wife worries for our safety, but she is a good sport about it.

Re:What would you do ? 5 Years, 4 Months ago
my wife has been riding about a year. i took the msf class with her and both learned alot. there was 2 guys that had been riding 20 years and learned some things they were doin wrong. she bought a vstar 650 classic and loves it. women like to accesorize so a bike is no exception. she small framed but has no problem with handling it. its big enough to be comfortable at highway speeds, but not too big for easy handling. just gotta keep preaching use rear brake andstay off front brake when going slow in parking lots. i do worry about her which is natural, but a left turner or rear ender can hit me just as easy as her. not fair to let me have all the riding fun. we love riding together.

Man the ride like a pro videos are fantastic! Order up, Don't get the learn to ride the easy way one but do get Ride like a Pro and surviving the mean streets.

The class is great thing to do and do it with her is even better, Learn something new everyday.

Install a STEBEL on her bike when she gets it, before she rides.

I am always a nervouse wreck when I ride with Schatzie, And I want to kill every cage that takes a shot at her and a lot have. I think the fact that she is a professional driver (CDL) gives her the edge. A lot of women ride, it IS hard to see people take shots at them. But they can ride as well as anyone and survive the mean streets too. Anyone on a bike is taking a chance everytime they ride.

I highly suggest wearing Bhon Armor . Get her some. It would be the first safety gear I bought had they had it when I started. It works as stated and fits under anything you wear. On a recent trip to the Tail of the dragon area, I had it on, then Jeans and then leather pants on top. It's that comfortable! I feel like a turttle with it on and ALWAYS use it riding at night! (The deer thing)

Have fun!

Just havin' fun bro... Except for the freezing in Alaska part! We're coming back to Virginia at Christmas time though, and hopefully I'll get another crack at a Roadie!

and nightstar has the right idea... why settle for one roadie, if you can finagle your way into a second!!!

Say good-bye to either/or and hello to both/and...

a bobber, and a bagger
a solo, and a two-up
a roadwing conversion, and a tricky air

You know I just realized I need to back my wife more in her desire to ride...
