|
|
Got a 2005 Midnight. Are these really cold natured?I hadn't started this one since June 2011.It started up and ran good with on or half on.My question is at 40 degrees how long will it have to run without any choke? Are Roadstars SUPER cold natured?
Thanks,
Tony

I wouldn't say SUPER cold blooded, but all carbed Yamahas I've ever had were a little cold blooded. I don't consider it a bad trade off for what is usually a pretty close tolerance engine considering their lifespan. If it sat for a while did you run something like Seafoam through it to clean it out real well? 6 months is enough to evaporate a lot of light components out of gas & ethanol can soak up a lot of water in that time as well.

This fits in here, right? I mean, I can make this fit in here ... right?

Yes and much more so with the stock carb. HSR42 and its less cold blooded even with the carb heater disconnected.

uk based wildstar motor and yes they do need warm up time. even in mid 60 degrees after a half hour stop i find i need to use choke for a couple of miles on restart, but good things are definately worth the wait!!!

I always need the choke even in the summer on the first start of the day. Winter, sometimes every start. I only need it for about a min. in the summer and even then it's usually only half-choke once is fires up. In winter the choke goes out all the way to start, then after about a min. it goes half way in, then after about a mile of riding I shove it all the way home.
Follow that process and you should have no trouble at all.

i have always had to choke mine. even on hot days. my knob worked real hard in and out, i didn't even know that there was a half way position. for me it was on or off, nothing in between. i just stared it up this christmas since it was such a nice 40 degree day and i noticed now that i pull the knob out and with the bike on and vibrating, and it some how now works its way back in and the bike dies with out the choke. it there any adjustment i can make or did some ting break on my cable that i need to look at. i am sure glad this topic came up.

I gather from all the answers its going to be a little more cold natured than my 1600 Vulcan was.I'II try for longer warm ups.I do use non- ethanol gas and while it wasn't being used I treated the gas with sta bil...
thanks,
Tony

half to full choke to start, let it idle a few minutes then drive it a few miles, THEN push choke off.

Just behind the Choke (pull)Knob is a Tension adjuster. NOT the plastic Hex Nut! Turn it clockwise a little at a time until the choke still works smoothly but doesn't suck back in before you push it in.
Hope I explained that well enough
