Mine is always on reserve, so I can't help you there. But when the low fuel light comes on, I have approx 1.3 gal left in the tank. So, for me, that is about 40-50 miles.

Ask me about my attention deficit disorder or my pie or my cat. A dog. I have a bike. Do you like TV? I saw a rock. Hi.

Does the low fuel light work even if the fuel gauge doesn't? What type of sensor is it?

Fuel light & gauge come from the same sensor. It's a float on a wiper arm, resistance type level sender.

Since every bike is different if you really want to know how far you can go on reserve do what I did.
Keep the petcock in the NON reserve position until you ride long enough to have the bike starved of fuel. Switch to the reserve position and zero out your trip odometer and then put a gallon sized can of gas in your saddlebag. Run the bike till it stops and check the mileage. Now you know how far you can go.
Pour in the gallon of gas and head to a filling station.

I get between 23-24 miles after switching to reserve. Then again, I avoid that. I know that a tank is a max 148 miles for me. I fill around 120 miles. My low fuel light comes on about 10 or 15 miles before reserve.
Unfortunately for you, these bikes can have a wide range of fuel consumption based on their set up. My bike has was running 35mpg on one carb set up and then is running about 31 with the current set up (higher performance in the mid range) Also riding habits change it greatly. I can get the 35mpg with this set up, or I can ride like I stole it and drop it to 27mpg in a hurry.
In other words, your mileage may vary ...

So I prolly get about 25mpg, because I ride like I borrowed your bike for the weekend and you are nowhere around Thanks for the info, I ask because a live in a one gas station town, I town of about 900 people and the last station until you get to the coast, so they charge what they want to charge. So I try not to get Gas there, but to go north from my town the next town/gas station is about 20 miles....it is a butt puckering experience when the low fuel light comes on that make that 20 mile not a fun ride....... thanks for your feedback, I am going to put the gallon of gas and ride it out...
