I learned early from my folks, you have to learn and work at being a "Good neighbor" It's important! I agree with keeping it down early and late, also during the day in a "Residential" neighborhood there is no reason to go WOT! Kids are out playing dogs will chase you.. some people might have small kids taking a nap... you just don't know.
Keep the WOT for high-ways and unpopulated areas.

I rode sport bikes my whole life and did some pretty stupid things (but at the time seemed pretty cool), and yes I have to admit I spent many evenings running back roads at speeds triple the posted speed limit.
One thing I never did was "honk on it" in town. Only a morron would bring attention to himself by cracking the throttle or doing wheelies in town. I never did it and my group did not tolerate other riders doing it. Having siad that once out of city/town limits - it's another story.
Maybe those riders don't realize how residential your street really is. Maybe you can have city councill errect a "SLOW - CHILDEREN PLAYING" sign, no motorcyclist in his right mind would speed in an area like that.
Another option (this happened to a rider I knew but did not ride with) is to hide in the bushes and throw a full windsheild washer jug at his head when he rides by! That'll get the message accross.
Someone mentioned adolescent Harley riders. This is my pet peeve as of late. I can't tell you how many forty something riders are just getting thier licence and just bought some giant bag of shit Harley with straight pipes only to crack the throttle on every down shift in my subdivision. This is so irritating, and if you ever do have the misfortune of riding with them - forget it, you might as well ride with Betty the school bus driver. Thses riders are all about making noise in town and riding like blue hairs on the open road.
Ooops did I spout off a rant just now?

Like most everyone here, I take it easy going in and out of the neighborhood. It makes no sense to go nuts and piss people off. Same as true of the guys with big amps and 18s in the trunk.

I am the last guy in the world that will complain about a loud motorcycle.....
I work third shift and need to sleep all day.
I have a 40 year old adolescent neighbor who does not work and lives with his parents that insists on blasting the straight on his shovelhead harley all afternoon whle im trying to sleep!
He starts the bike up lets it run while blasting the crap out of the pipes(waking me up) He blasts down the street to who knows where.comes back 10 minutes later.(wakes me up again) goes back in his house and repeats the process every hour for the entire day.
Im no prude...really im not. I LOVE the sound and rumble of a loud motorcycle.
I have asked him on several occasions to stop because I work nights and try to sleep during the day. He seems to not want to heed my advice...
Im thinking this is at the point where its about to get ugly. The next time he does this im going outside to confront him with my pipes blazing.......and not the ones on my bike either!
I think there is a time and a place for loud pipes....I can see the point of someone looking for a little peace and quiet in their own homes. But there are some people that ust prefer to bitch and complain.
Its all about respect people.....
you asked him twice, third time should get him some lucky charms!

My wife and I have been married for 2 yrs. Here aunt lives next door about 100 yards away. I apologized to her before the wedding in case my motorcycle was too loud. She said thanks and that it wouldn't bother her and that if it did she would let me know. I haven't heard anything about but thought it was best to apologize up front and offer to change it up if it bothered her but so far it's a go.

See, I agree with the letter. There's a time and place for WOT. 11pm at night on a suburban street isn't it. In my opinion, there's no reason for it, and is inconsiderate. The writer probably has no idea what to do.
There's a guy in my condo complex that has a chopper that does the same thing. It's a really nice bike, but there's no reason to go through the complex at WOT in second gear late at night.
Rude. +1
