put the push rods in the right spots? sorry but i cant remember if the inner rods go to the intake or exhaust side your jetting isnt super rich so you shouldnt be blowing flames out the pipe (unless thats the look your going for )

I'm with Smoke on this one. Very easy to reverse the push rods. (or at least that's what I hear)

Your fine on the Choke(enricher..it adds fuel), the bike should need that to start if the carb is tuned properly.
Turn the idle up, it should be between 850 and 950 rpms.
The DJ needle is 1/2 of step shorter then a Barons needle, so you may need to move the clip to the 3rd groove with the 172.5 Mikuni main, and see how that works.
Double check the float level.

If there's a chance you might have reversed the push rods, then you should check that as well, per the above advice.

I just went through this, re-jetting that is, I've got Roadhouse Duals, with the sharkfin tips, but my setup is exactly the same except I've got the Baron's needle. and it runs like a charm. Honestly it has NEVER run so well!

Did you remember to cap the port on top of the manifold that used to go to the AIS? You may want to check to make sure you don't have a leak at the Head/manifold connection.

Also, on the 1700 one of the pushrods is a little longer than the other 3. Can't remember which one it is.

The accelerator pump should squirt out gas with a little throttle when the engine is off. If it doesn't then there's something wrong with it or maybe the little O'ring in the float bowl is missing.
