1600vs1700 front brake master cylinder difference 2 Years, 1 Month ago
Ok i am having a dilemma
Some roadstars come with a 14mm and some come with a 5/8 bore master cylinder
My 1600 has a 5/8 bore master cylinder
And my 1700 has a 14mm bore master cylinder
Mind you the 1600 have a 2 piston caliper
And the 1700 have the 4 piston caliper
Is this a difference due to caliper sizing?
Can i please ask yall to check your master cylinders and post your results

I am in the middle of a build and plan to use the 4 piston calipers if this is the case a 9/16 master cylinder which is designed for a single rotor will work with our dual rotor set up
9/16 = 14mm

Anybody have an explanation for this?

The ratio of lever bore to total caliper area is critical to getting good lever feel. Go to Vintage cycle brakes and look up the lever ratio calculator to figure out what you should run. I dropped my XS650 from the stock 13mm to an 11mm Brembo master, and the brakes are excellent, where they were very wooden in stock configuration. It's a balance of leverage and lever movement to get the right feel.

Unless someone changed it all 1600's should have the 5/8" master cylinder. And 1700's the 14 mm. Here's a link to the ratio chart JD mentioned: http://www.vintagebrake.com/mastercylinder.htm

I seriously think I just am going to run a 9/16 master cylinder with the 4 piston calipers and call it a day
it should retain the stock feel.
any thoughts on this
9/16=14mm
