I haven't in the year I've owned mine. Might be getting some dust/dirt/grit in the contacts and the first press might knock it off, but that's just a wild semi-late night guess. Is it pretty consistent at being around the 30th time each time?

well I'm just guessing at the interval but every once in a while I'll go to start it and nothing happens, 2 seconds later I hit the start button and she fires right up. weird, hasn't left me stranded yet...

I've had it happen a few times, I just figured my battery was down a little and the engine stopped on a compression stroke and made it a little tough for the starter to turn it over..

Sounds like exactly the problem I was having. Clean your terminals real good. Make sure that any accessories that you have plugged into the battery are ON TOP of the terminal contacts. Use a ratchet to tighten down your terminal bolts real good. This should do the trick for you.

Investing in a battery keeper/charger isn't a bad idea, either. Most come with a permanent pigtail that you can attach to the battery and keep tucked under the seat. Once it's parked for the night, plug in the bike, plug it into the wall, and let it top off the battery for you.

They are very small and run $50-$80, generally.

Doesn't click or anything? Do the gauges do 'the sweep', or just sit there like you didn't even push the start button? If *absolutely nothing* is happening when you push the button, when Spinal Tap did that it was the Main Relay Unit becoming intermittent. It finally died altogether.

Good point Pat, The few times it has happened to me, I could hear the starter trying to turn it over..also, the last time it was night, and I noticed the headlight go way dim...

Sounds like the compression stroke description. I've had that happen more often than every 30 times. Used to it. I just let go of the button, let it roll back and hit it again, and it's alive...
