Warden does your HF machine have the hook up for motorcycle wheels? I did modify mine slightly to be able to raise the rim so that I wouldn't need to remove the rotor. I also taped the ends where it hooks on the wheel. With good proper lube and the No-Mar bar that tire will simply slide right off. Same going on. You must use a fair amount of lube and again that no-mar bar will slip the tire right back on.

Danny,

That's the exact unit I have. I'll be the first to admit, it was likely user error. But it was very cumbersome to use. Maybe I should read the instructions?

Perhaps there are YouTube videos to show how to properly use it. ?

Jim here is a video it's a little long but it will help you. Video The one thing that bothered me was his method of taking the tire off. Once he put the no-mar removal bar in had he stood on the opposite side and pushed down on the bead as he was trying to slide it the tire would have come off with ease. You will see as soon as he uses a clamp(not necessary) watch how easy it slides off. And this guy needs to learn to put the removal bar right horizontal to the upright. This would give him nearly 340° of rotation. He limits himself because he didn't start in the proper position. He uses everything I use including the yellow thing but I don't need the clamp. Also his special tool for balance is not necessary. I take the axle and put it through the rim and use 2 jack stands to check my balance.

I did however put dynabeads in the tubes and have never had a problem with balance.

I'll have to remember that next time I'm drinking too much. I hate losing my balance.

Please use extreme caution when drinking and shoving beads in your tube!

Easy peasy and you can reuse the zip ties if you know how to undo them.

Can you use this method with tubes?

I don't see why not. Just put the tube inside the tire before mounting and line up the valve stem with the stem hole.

With my no-mar and H.F. tire machine I would be done and sitting having my 2nd beer by time you got that tire off using the zip tie method.

Probably, but unless you go through tire like crazy, I don't see the point in buying a tire machine. To each their own. I just thought I'd throw an option out there for the more frugal of us.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being frugal. I have done that with most things most of my life. I realize a tire changer is not high on everyone's wish list. I myself, have reached the age that I like gadgets and doing things a little easier than when I was younger (actually a kind of a requirement to do easier than years ago, LOL) Will I totally recoup the cost of a tire changer for myself by changing my own tires - possibly not. If I do buy one, will it be available for friends I ride with to use - absolutely. I live in a one horse town a few miles and a lot of aggravation from the tire shops in the city. I was not satisfied with the local shop last time, so my options are limited. I work 5-6 10 to 12 hour days each week with a 100 mile round trip commute on top of that. Not interested in taking a day of vacation just to drive back to the city to wait around to get a tire changed. Most of us probably have other tools that are more expensive that would get used less anyway - not even going to the other toy lists. I do like looking at the more frugal ways though as well. Especially those well thought out that make me say "why the hell did I not think of that years ago!"

Hey Ron don't get me wrong I'm all for frugal myself. That's why I do my own tires. I was just ribbing you.
At the time my H.F. machine cost me a whole $75.00. Since I have always owned 3 bikes and live in an area that allows me to ride 365 days a year with extreme heat temps on the asphalt, yes I go through tires. My first front & rear tire change paid for my machine. Not only do I do my tires any of my friends that want a tire change they bring them to my house and we do them. We get our tires cheaper then most shops charge and we have a cold beer and socialize at the same time. If you want to use the zip tie method by all means do that! But for me if a machine will make my life easier I'll buy it. That's why I have 1020 sq.ft. of shop with a vehicle hoist just so I don't have to change my oil laying on my back. I don't hammer nails I use nail guns. I don't turn a wrench if I can use an air ratchet. Like Mike I'm getting older and I'm all about less manual labor and still save money.
