Just a tip...
I always have a hard time reading the size numbers stamped on jets. I remembered I had a photographer's loupe in a box somewhere. Pulled it out and WOW. I can read everything on them now.
The loupe is now sitting in the box of carb parts (needles and jets) so I have it when I'm working on my carbs. Priceless! (but only costs $11.15 with free shipping) on Amazon. LOL
Good tip, I have a hand lens that I use for geology work, so i'll use that!
Is there a consensus on whether I should pull the carb to pull the jets or leave it in and just get to it from the top? I haven't totally pulled the carb on this yet (I have rebuilt carbs before though), but i'm not opposed to it.
Could the float level or PMS be causing the heavy backfiring?

The jets are in the bottom under the fuel bowl. The needle is in the top. JMO but pulling the carb won't hurt a thing and it will give you an opportunity to clean it spraying carb cleaner thru the jet ports.

Make sure you clean up well after the woodworking. Sawdust and carbs don't go well together.

Ok guys, so i pulled everything and this is the situation:
the enricher cover seems to be cracked, but only very little. will this affect anything?
the main jet is 195, pilot is the mikuni 35, and the screw is turned out 4 complete turns. the needle is non-adjustable.
So as you recall, I get pretty heavy backfire when letting off the throttle...
I have no AIS, VH longshots, KN intake, and a hand-ported intake manifold. How does the carb setup seem with my combo? The carbs were done by the previous owner.

Best bet is get a full jet like Barons. The right needle and jet selection. Your pilot and needle are too lean and your main is rich, probably to try and compensate. Never works though.
