I've been riding for a year now. Bought a used bike and first thing I did is replace the tires (not knowing how old, ect. the tires were). But this thread has prompted a question to this rookie...

How do you know when a tire needs replacing? I've put over 3,500 miles this summer on my bike (still attempting to wipe the smile from my face). I'll be checking the pressure to make sure it's appropriate, but did I read on these posts that a MC tire has a "stripe" showing when the tread wears down?
